If one thing sets a NASCAR championship team apart from the rest, it is the equation between a driver and his crew chief. Keeping that thought in mind, Stewart-Haas Racing has allied their new driver, Josh Berry, with Rodney Childress. SHR is going through a lean patch and with the addition of Berry along with Noah Gragson, they are looking to turn a corner and usher a post-Kevin Harvick era in the Cup Series.

The former JR Motorsports driver in the Xfinity Series will be running his first full-time schedule piloting the No.4 Ford Mustang. During the 2023 season, Berry featured in 10 Cup races for Hendrick Motor Sports and LMC. However, he will be filling in huge boots as he replaces Harvick in the iconic No.4 Ford for SHR. Cherishing the challenges of his rookie season, the 33-year-old is feeling confident in his pairing with Rodney Childress and looking forward to making the most of it in 2024.

Rodney is a proven winner during his time at SHR. Notably, the very first season he joined the team roped in as the crew chief for Kevin Harvick in 2014, the duo brought home the NASCAR Cup Series championship. Further, the duo was consistent in making it to the playoffs over the years. Now that Josh Berry is under the wings of the veteran crew chief, he is hoping to replicate the success of the past and is excited to work with Rodney.

Explaining the compatibility between him and his crew chief, Berry, while speaking to FOX’s Bob Pockrass in an interview said, “Rodney and I, we gel really well, we have really similar backgrounds obviously with the late model side of thing. I’m just really excited to have him leading our team. He’s such a phenomenal crew chief and the success speaks for itself, so to have him on board in my rookie season definitely makes me feel confident.”

During the 2023 Cup season, Berry was accustomed to driving the Chevrolet cars for both HMS and LMC. But here at SHR, he will be hopping in a Ford Mustang. While a driver of his calibre should fit right in, driving the Next Gen car for a full schedule presents its challenges when compared to a partial schedule. Luckily for him, he will have Rodney to rely on and, as he spoke earlier, he is excited to have him leading his No.4 team.
