Of late, there has been a lot of hate directed towards the NASCAR Truck and Xfinity Series fans, insiders, and some Cup Series drivers for the dangerous driving that goes on. But here’s the thing, the Cup drivers wreck as much as any of them. While it is true that one has experience, unlike anywhere else racing at the highest level of stock car racing, former drivers Kenny and Mike Wallace believe that it does not make those at the top smarter than a driver in one of the lower series.

The Daytona 500, which kicked off the cup series, ended under caution. A lot of the drivers taking part in that race came down heavily on the Truck Series opener which also ended under similar circumstances but failed to acknowledge what happened in their race. And some people have had enough of it.

If the ending of the Daytona 500 was disappointing, the ending of the Ambetter Health 400 was just that much better. Kenny Wallace believes that it’s the greatest race in the history of NASCAR on a recent episode of The Kenny Wallace Show. Ryan Blaney lost the race thanks to his flawed decision-making, as per Kenny and his brother Mike Wallace.

The latter had revealed that back in the day, drivers were allowed to communicate with each other for a little while if they were backing up and needed a push. That practice did not last long, as NASCAR outlawed it after a few years. The organizers also said that while the Cup racers were smart enough to back up for a push, it was too risky to allow drivers at the lower levels to do that. Mike and Kenny Wallace were having none of it.

“It’s funny they outlawed that all the way through all three series. Then they came back and said okay, the Cup guys are intelligent enough and good enough to do that but we can’t let the Xfinity cars…they can’t do it without wrecking…they all proved that they all can wreck,” Mike Wallace said.

“They’re dumb…that is another good point. Sometimes people, and you and I were Cup drivers forever, that is a false narrative. Now the experience level might be there but to think Cup drivers are smarter than say Austin Hill or some of those…now experience I get it but everybody wrecks. And the Cup guys prove it all the time,” Kenny Wallace said as he nodded in agreement.

Ryan Blaney tried back into his competitors towards the end of the Cup Series race in Atlanta, but it ended up backfiring and the Wallace brothers were onto the Team Penske man in a flash.

Three-time NASCAR winner at Daytona and Talladega, Mike Wallace knows quite a bit about superspeedway racing and while he understood what Blaney was trying to do, it was not the right move at that moment. “With Blaney driving into turn 1, I said by all rights he should win this thing but we’ll have to see what happens. They come off of 2, Blaney is stretched out a little bit, and come to find out Blaney tells everyone afterward he backed off the throttle a little bit trying to close the gap and they had the momentum on him,” he said.

Kenny Wallace agreed with his brother and said that it was a difficult move that the likes of Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon used to pull off, and not everyone is as good as those two.

“I tell you something, you hear that all the time. You’re playing the piano. That backing up, that’s like I’m so great, I’m gonna drag the brake and I’m going to back up, no. You’re allowing them to catch you and that’s art. Earnhardt did that, Gordon did it and all the drivers like I’m gonna back on up. Well back up but be careful,” Kenny added.
