There are no hard and fast rules for racing rough in NASCAR. Drivers bump into each other all the time to get a lead. But the racing rules in Brazil are not so clear on this matter. Take into account the first race for Daniel Suarez in the NASCAR Brasil Sprint Race at the Autodromo de Interlagos; he was in the lead until he was not.
The Mexican-born driver was not dissuaded by the loss, though. He went on to win the second of the three-race series, waiting to take on the third one. The second race in Brazil was a night race with headlights on. The driver is now eagerly looking forward to the third race in the US.

The 2016 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion has recently been in Brazil for his marriage to Julia Piquet. Julia is Nelson Piquet’s daughter for those unaware of that surname’s legacy. Nelson Piquet was an F1 driver and a three-time World Driver’s Champion. So, while other NASCAR drivers have been vacationing through the Olympics break, Suarez had bigger plans for those couple of weeks.
But Daniel Suarez thought of utilizing the time even more judiciously by participating in NASCAR Brasil while he was in the vicinity. And he did so with all his grit and glory. The first race set the stage for the dual-citizenship holder, acquainting him with Brazilian racing rules. Apparently, the Brazilian officials did not like his driving against Leo Torres and chose to penalize him for it. Suarez tweeted after the race, “Fun last lap though!! Shame they took the win away from us, still trying to understand the rules here in Brazil, definitely different than NASCAR in the US Race 2 coming up!”
The Mexican-American driver was the first to pass the checkered flag, but the five-second penalty brought him down to P6. Nonetheless, the driver learned his lesson from this unique racing experience and went on to clinch the win in the second race of the day. Suarez is now the only driver who has won NASCAR races across three countries. He is also the one to win races in all three NASCAR Series. This spirited newlywed is certainly a head-turner and a deserving addition to the Piquet family.

As the driver heads back to the US for the third race of NASCAR Brasil, he will be thrilled to unleash his raw racing once again. While there is a charm to clean racing, there’s also a time and need for some car slamming every now and then. And there’s an art to rubbing against rival cars while not letting the act turn ugly. Suarez understands how to tread that fine line better than most other NASCAR drivers, now that he has achieved an unseen feat in Brazil.
Although the #99 Trackhouse Racing driver remained calm and composed even after the seemingly unfair decision, many fans got enraged by it.

Many fans expressed their disbelief at the Brazilian official’s decision, while others exclaimed that Daniel Suarez needs to learn to display his craft better. One user compared him to another driver, saying, “Kinda deserved that. Shame you still haven’t learned from SVG on how to make a clean pass.” Now, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but this kind of sounds like a distasteful comment from an idealist spectator.
Apart from this solo disapproval, most other fans stood in solidarity with Suarez and even appreciated his kind efforts in the second race. One user commented, “That looks like good old racing to me???? Stupid rules.” It is a fact that racing can get messy sometimes, without any one driver’s absolute fault. Another user wrote, “Great run amigo! I saw nothing wrong with what you did! Thats racing like it should be, IMO!”

A user pointed out the ambiguous nature of the NASCAR rules, “Can’t blame ya for pushing it, in NASCAR you really don’t know what will stand and what won’t as they seem to change with the wind.” Another user wrote, “Congrats on getting it tonight, excited to see what you do tomorrow!” They were celebrating the driver’s second win and were looking forward to the third race. Nothing wrong in that!
The more people in a debate, the more varied their opinions are. It is a natural law, and there’s no point in defying it. As long as the rules are unbiased, the decisions can be given the benefit of the doubt. Do you think Daniel Suarez will be able to bag a win in the third NASCAR Brasil race? Let us know!
