It was just days back when Bubba Wallace stood apart from the crowd after the race at Bristol. The driver had set his personal best record as he advanced to the Round of 12 for the first time in the Cup Series and emotions ran high and tears rolled down his cheeks. The driver was visibly exhausted both mentally and physically after the intensifying pressure of qualifying.
Nevertheless, hoping to secure his first victory of the season, the driver tried to start the race by putting his best foot forward. As a result, the cherry on the top came as Wallace earned his first pole position in the season providing him the opportunity of scoring a victory. Alas! Things fell apart after he lost to William Byron.

On account of his loss, the driver heaved his disappointment in a self-deprecating tone that created a furor among the fans. However, the question that arises at this juncture is whether Wallace himself is to be blamed for this demeanor or is portrayed to be so.
It could have been the most emphatic victory that one could have witnessed on Sunday, as pole-sitter Bubba Wallace ran a career-high 111 laps in the race. The driver exhibited an enormous amount of speed that was worthy of the chequered, which could ensure his position for the next round. However, the fates intervened as the driver failed to capitalize on the late restart and was compelled to eat the humble pie.
As a result, the driver stands below the cutline of elimination and looks inside hoping to turn the tables in the next two races. However, after losing out on what could be the perfect ending to his day, Wallace was frustrated beyond comparison.
In a post-race interview, the driver reported to NBC reporter Kim Coon, “I should have kept my line in the three and forced William (Byron) to get tight. You’re still vulnerable in these cars, right? I’ve just upset myself. I really needed a win there. It’s a good showing. I don’t know where that puts us. I don’t care, but I know what I did … I choked!”

Wallace also exclaimed, “Had one of the worst restarts when you’re the best restarter, and that’s what happened when the time mattered. Oh, I’m booing myself, too. So, we’re good. I’m one of y’all today.”
Drawing from this, Bubba Wallace’s reaction highlights the driver being his own biggest critic and chastising himself for losing out in the race. Moreover, this is not the first time that the driver has expressed doubts about himself and self-sabotaged.
He had also expressed that he “needs to be replaced” after he was mired in a series of misfortunes. This results in the question of whether this expression is a deliberate effort and channels capitalize on it or is it just Wallace’s own demeanor.
