Of the many criticisms NASCAR is facing from the fans and from the insiders, there’s one which revolves around the way in which the governing body conducts tech inspections. In the last year and a half, teams have found themselves under ‘random testing’ after a race from which some massive penalties have come out.

This was a subject which former driver Kenny Wallace put forward in front of one of all time greats Mark Martin in a recent interview.

I think these penalties have to be done,” Martin said.

NASCAR Hall of Famer claims Dirt Late Model is the “last best racing” left

Martin elaborated on his opinion as he pointed towards the need of NASCAR being so strict with their inspection and the penalties. The Hall of Famer also pointed towards the rare form of racecar driving in American motorsports landscape which stands alone in this context.

“Dirt late models are the last best racing we have because they have some rules but they don’t have so dang many that you can’t breathe and it’s really cool,” Martin explained. “If you’re able to enjoy dirt late model, it’s purely into the core and not just on track experience or product.”

“Asphalt late model is over, it’s just like NASCAR, you can’t do nothing and it happens all the time. These guys get wins taken away, the snowball derby, this deal and that deal.”

The Hall of Famer claimed what we are seeing in the sport is a direct result of “the day we live in” and the fact that there are “so many smart people pushing so many buttons.”

“We forced it to be that way because there weren’t two or three smart people around, there were hundreds doing it everywhere and you just shouldn’t complain about all this tech inspection stuff,” Martin explained. “It has to be tight and it has to be enforced.”
