In recent days, the world of NASCAR has been witnessing some confusing events. One prominent example is when the league decided to slap Hendrick Motorsports and Kaulig Racing with hefty penalties for illegal modifications. And this decision has caused some friction between the fraternity and the governing body.

Interestingly, Hendrick Motorsports have successfully appealed against the organization’s points penalty. After their appeal, HMS got reinstated 100 points for each driver fined, whereas the crew chief suspension remains.

While the team was successful in overturning the penalty, NASCAR veteran Denny Hamlin shares his skepticism about Kaulig Racing‘s appeal!

Kaulig Racing and its crew chief of the #31 team, Trent Owens were also fined $100,000 and suspended from the next 4 NASCAR Cup Series races for modification of the radiator duct.

Joining his friend and co-host Jared Allen, Hamlin shared his thoughts on the matter in the recent episode of his ‘Action Detrimental’ podcast.

Denny Hamlin backs the “innocent” team despite knowing the ground reality of things

In the podcast, Hamlin explained the thin lines that go unnoticed in the sport. Sharing a similar opinion to Dale Earnhardt Jr, Hamlin also mentions the communication gap that may have caused it all.

Denny Hamlin elaborated, “From what I understand they (Kaulig Racing) did absolutely nothing, uh they just received this that maybe it was accidentally sent to them um but yeah but I don’t know. I mean it’s a no-win situation for anyone, this Kaulig appeal for sure because I think there, they are the most innocent party of anyone, but I don’t know maybe some panelist will see it differently.”

While NASCAR’s decision seems to be a bit over the top, according to Kaulig Racing’s statement, only one of two louvers on Justin Haley’s #31 car was confiscated during the pre-race inspection.

With all the recent drama in NASCAR, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver also explains how this intricate system works and thinks it’s “the right thing to do.”

I dont know but you know I see people upset with the process, you have to have this though, right? The way NASCAR set this up where they have an independent panel judge on that. I think that’s the right thing to do,” said Hamlin.

With NASCAR facing backlash from fans, teams have also come up expressing their displeasure. Even Chris Rice, the President of Kaulig Racing, said, “At the end of the day, my guys did nothing wrong.”

Just like Hendrick Motorsports, Kaulig Racing has also decided to appeal against the penalty, explaining in an official statement earlier last month, the team said, Only one of the two louvers on the #31 car was confiscated, showing inconsistencies in the parts provided to teams from NASCAR’s single source supplier, providing no competitive advantage.”
