NASCAR fans will soon witness their favorite drivers on the tracks with the Daytona 500 around the corner. With several pre-season interviews and podcasts surfacing, Bubba Wallace’s spotter Freddie Kraft too appeared on one. He had some interesting observations to make on the new cars.
NASCAR spotters Brett Griffin and Freddie Kraft are back with a mind-blowing podcast on Dale Earnhardt Jr’s Dirty Mo Media channel on YouTube. They came to the studio to announce the new season of Door Bumper Clear, talk about the Dirty Mo Ultimate Experience in Las Vegas, and share opinions on all the NASCAR off-season news. Fans love them both for being unfiltered and candid about their views and opinions on everything.

Kraft recalled a day when he was in Charlotte last year to test the cars and he did not like the sound of the new cars. Comparing them to the old cars on the field, he felt that the new ones were unbelievably loud. Though the old ones would scream as well, there is something bothersome about the pitch of the new cars that he found stupid.

Kraft wondered what would happen when they got them to Martinsville and Bristol tracks. He said, “The dirt race is kind of its own animal, they were kind of off throttle most of the time. But when we got to the concrete race at Bristol, it was ridiculous.”
NASCAR spotter Freddie Kraft on mufflers
Giving his unfiltered opinion on mufflers, he said that but for the limelight it got on social media, the fans wouldn’t even notice the changes and the mufflers. He said, “I seen instantly Bob tweets out, ‘Oh they’re going to test mufflers.’ And social media, NASCAR Reddit, and NASCAR Twitter goes absolutely insane. Oh my God! You know you can’t put mufflers on these things, It’s ridic! What a terrible idea.

“And I guarantee you, if they had never made that announcement and just went out there and put the mufflers on and tested, ninety percent of the people that follow NASCAR and watch these races would have had no idea that they even had mufflers on there.”
Around the same time as the podcast, the mufflers were in discussion on various social media. Fans had mixed reactions to these. Some were up for it while many others found that they were not needed in the first place. Young NASCAR driver Christopher Bell has also been vocal about the addition of mufflers.

Only time will tell if Kraft’s opinions are taken well by NASCAR fans or not. But it is hard to argue that his insights do not hold water.
