Depending on who you ask, Ty Gibbs vs Bubba Wallace could be a very divisive question. On one hand, there’s a young and promising driver who is struggling to find his footing in his rookie season. And on the other, there’s a talented driver whose career has had some glimpses of brilliance but they’ve been far and few in between.
This was more or less the question, the choice between the two which was posed to two former NASCAR drivers. And they both had interesting reasonings behind their picks.

Former NASCAR driver picks Ty Gibbs ahead of Bubba Wallace
On FOX’s NASCAR Race Hub, former drivers Drew Blickensderfer and David Ragan were asked for the Toyota driver currently below the cutline who could get a win and move into the playoffs between Bubba Wallace and Ty Gibbs.
For Blick, the answer was the rookie.
“I’m going with Ty Gibbs. Ty Gibbs I think has kind of been harnessed most of the season, trying to get his feet underneath him, figure out the Cup schedule and what is going on,” he reasoned.
“I think as he goes through the summer, he’ll show that speed he showed in Xfinity and he’ll be knocking on the door.”

David Ragan makes a case for Wallace
On the other hand, Ragan went with Wallace qualifying for the playoffs ahead of Ty Gibbs.
“I gotta go with Bubba Wallace and there’s only one word I need to say, it’s Kansas. That race is coming up in two weeks. 23XI won both of those races last year, they’ve got a ton of speed there,” Ragan said.
He claimed there’s “a little section of tracks” which are “really good” for the #23 driver.
“I know the results aren’t always there at Dover, but he is fast at Dover,” Ragan added.
