The Cup Series is four weeks from the grand finale. But this is not the case with all the Cup teams. Some are yet to decide on their drivers for the next season, while others have decided to push their Xfinity drivers up to the Cup Series. Until last month, one of the biggest talks in the NASCAR community was the future of Denny Hamlin at Joe Gibbs Racing.

But now that the #11 Toyota icon has signed a multi-year contract with Joe Gibbs, 23XI fans as well as Joe Gibbs Racing supporters can breathe a breath of relief. Meanwhile, a former Joe Gibbs Racing driver is looking forward to driving a Cup car going into the upcoming season.

The driver got Joe Gibbs the 2021 Xfinity Series title and has been driving for Kaulig Racing for the last two Xfinity Series seasons, before that, he drove part-time in Xfinity for JR Motorsports in 2020. The Xfinity star was 25th in the Cup standings in 2019 driving for Richard Childress Racing before being released to make room for Tyler Reddick, and had one top-5 (a fifth at Talladega) and two top-10s in averaging a 22nd-place finish at RCR. With all these achievements in such a short span, he is definitely in the mix for that coveted Cup ride.

When Daniel Hemric decided to keep himself open to opportunities

The 32-year-old Daniel Hemric is known for being a strong racer, having made the Xfinity championship race three times and making his fifth playoff appearance this year. But he only has one win in 179 career Xfinity starts. And like Stewart-Haas Racing, Kaulig Racing is yet to announce its lineup as their #31 Chevrolet still demands a driver after Justin Haley signed with Rick Ware Racing.

While talking to Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports, Hemric earlier revealed his intentions regarding his probable chance of driving a Cup car. He said, “Matt (Kaulig) and Chris (Rice) had a vision for where Kaulig Racing wanted to be. Three, four, five years down the road and that’s what I was signing up for was the opportunity.

There’s no promises, but I knew that (there was) room for growth. It’s good to be driving for an owner who loves the sport, who’s passionate about the sport, who’s not scared to invest like he has.”

Hemric felt that he was twice the racecar driver than he was in 2019 when he got the opportunity to run in the Cup Series for Joe Gibbs for the first time. “We’ve been playing rebuild and catchup ever since. … You try to leave your future open to anything. That’s what I’m open to. I obviously am not going to put my hand down,” said Hemric.

Hemric’s 11 ride is locked into the Xfinity playoffs but on the owner’s points. No doubt, Kaulig Racing has fielded cars in the Xfinity Series for several years and then added two Cup cars in 2022. Hemric drove in nine Cup races for Kaulig in 2022 in the No. 16 car, which was split among several drivers. AJ Allmendinger will be driving it full-time in 2023. While Hemric stated, he will drive full-time in Kaulig, either in Xfinity or Cup.

Kaulig Racing has decided to move Daniel Hemric from behind the wheel of the no. 11 Chevy to the number 10 Chevy for the seven-race long postseason. Indeed, Matt Kaulig sees the talent in Hemric. As of today, Hemric has made four playoff appearances and among them, he was able to advance to the Championship 4, without even winning a single race. But the burning question is,
