There is no doubt that Richard Petty is rightly considered the King of NASCAR. However, as with every other sport, things change with time. Who is considered the face of the sport always evolves with time.

Such is the case of Petty, as per NASCAR legend and former racer, Kenny Wallace. Recently, Wallace explained his personal opinion on how there is an “expiration date” for everything in life. His comments came while in the middle of the ongoing Jimmie Johnson and Richard Petty feud.

What did Kenny Wallace mention?

Wallace said, “I think it’s incredible at 80 years old that Richard Petty is running a NASCAR Cup team. He is the king. However, I want to give you my feelings. There’s always an expiration date on everything.

“Drivers especially. You know when drivers get into their 40s. Everybody is right there to tell them hey, you’re too old. You know, or players, any anybody in baseball. You get to 38 years old, you’re done. So I love Richard Petty and he’s the king.

“But listen, there’s a lot of music going on right now that I’ve never heard of. And all my kids are like, oh, yeah, dad. I’m like, well, I don’t hear that music on the radio. Sometimes even though we think we’re in the game, it’s hard to stay in the game. You got to be in it.”

It was nearly two decades ago when the revered Dale Earnhardt Sr got into his car for the final time. No one had expected that the 2001 Daytona 500 will take such a dark turn. Throughout the race, there were numerous wrecks, and Earnhardt’s wreck did not raise many eyebrows initially. However, after the wreck cleared the grim reality was thrown upon us. That was it. Talking about Dale Earnhardt Sr’s tragic death nearly twenty years ago, Wallace mentioned, if someone had a child at the time of the Intimidator’s untimely demise, that child would be an adult by now. However, even though that tragedy took place such a long time ago, nobody has forgotten how much of a legendary presence Earnhardt had when he was around.

However, Wallace believes that “there is there’s a time stamp on everybody in what they do.” After that time period, it is the new kids on the block that become the face of the sport. This is the circle of life and will always be.
