In many ways, Richard Childress Racing has essentially saved the career of Kyle Busch. Not that he wouldn’t have found a team after Joe Gibbs Racing. He is Kyle Busch after all.

But the prospect of him teaming up with someone who can actually match his talent and pedigree with their resources and history—that was tough.

Busch found RCR and since then, he has been nothing short of his old phenomenal self out on the racetrack with two wins already under his belt so far this season. Still, it’s been a big jump from the slump-like situation he was in last year and where he is today.

And after his recent win at Talladega, the man opened up on his struggles last year, what RCR signing him means to him, and what his plans are for the immediate future as well as the whole season.

Kyle Busch opens up on the support system that helped him get through last year

In a press conference after his win at Talladega, a reporter asked Busch about what helped him in making the transition from the “dark place” in 2022 to now, with two wins in a new team.

“Just having a good, strong support system. Obviously Samantha, Brexton, my family first. But then from there, having a great bunch of guys that I’m surrounded by that when Richard made comment to Randall about there being a chance I come over there, he was really pumped up about it, he was really excited about it,” he described.

“They didn’t think that Kyle Busch was washed up or anything like that. It was really a breath of fresh air to get over there and get to work.”

“Trust me, I’ve probably done more, worked harder in this year than I have in the last four just because of feeling like it’s my duty, it’s my service to them to give them everything that I’ve got, absolutely everything that I’ve got, for them sticking their neck out for me at RCR.

“We’re working really hard in a lot of areas. I keep pushing these guys on some stuff. I hope that it will continue to get better as we progress through the year,” he claimed.

Busch added that next week at Dover would be “another big test” for RCR considering they were “horrendous” there in 2022. And just the way he did with his career, the two-time Cup champion hopes they can “turn that around.”
