Just days after announcing Josh Williams’ signing to the Xfinity Series team, Kaulig Racing president Chris Rice had to deal with loss. It is no secret that Rice is a family man, but he had to bid farewell to someone that had been with him since he was a child. In a recent tweet, Rice revealed that he had lost his grandmother, Mart, who had lived to be 100 years old.

Chris Rice’s love for his family is well documented, mostly by himself. There are a lot of pictures on his Instagram and Twitter that show how much the NASCAR industry expert loves spending time with his friends and family. It would seem that Rice is a sociable individual. However, the recent development in his life must have hit him really hard.

Given how he worded his tweet, it would be safe to assume that the Kaulig Racing president was close to his grandmother. It is always difficult to lose someone who you have seen all your life, and that is exactly what Mart was to Chris Rice. He expressed his love for her and wrote that she will be missed and never forgotten.

The world lost a good one today! My Mart “grandmother” went to heaven this morning! She lived a 100 great years!! Love you Mart you will be missed but never forgotten!!” Rice wrote on Twitter with a picture of his grandmother.

Mart recently celebrated her 100th birthday which was a huge cause for celebration in the Rice household. The family had seemingly thrown an intimate party full of love and closed ones on the occasion. “Happy 100th Birthday to my grandmother “Mart”!!!” Rice had tweeted at the time as he shared the images.

Before this devastating news hit Chris Rice and his family, the Kaulig Racing executive had a lot of positive things going on. He had shared a constructive update on his team’s future in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. In 2024, the Matt Kaulig-owned outfit will have Josh Williams as a full-time racer driving the #11.

Josh Williams made headlines in the 2023 season for all the wrong reasons. The then-DGM Racing driver parked his #92 car on the start-finish line and walked off onto pit road. This caused outrage from drivers and experts alike as it was a highly dangerous stunt to pull.

Chris Rice alluded to that move when asked about signing Williams to his team but admitted that he was impressed with both his on-track and off-track growth since.

“Well he parked it at Atlanta,” Rice said as per Frontstretch at the Florence Speedway. “Josh has done a good job off the race track but also on the race track. Josh is…he’s that guy who’s always been quiet, not much trouble, but I’m pretty excited to have Josh.”
