Danica Patrick is not only one of the few successful female drivers in motorsport but also among the most controversial. Whether it’s the former Cup Series driver’s hot takes on Joe Rogan’s Spotify podcast on tree huggers or her disapproval of the vegan diet and lifestyle, Patrick doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to expressing her opinion on those who blame the world’s climate crisis on meat eaters, even when the entity in question is the United Nations itself!

Earlier this week, Bloomberg shared that the United Nations aims to pressure the leaders of first-world nations to reduce their ‘excessive appetite for meat’. After Danica Patrick’s previous campaigns against veganism, it came as no surprise when the 2008 Indy Japan 300 winner shared her disgust at the UN’s approach to solving climate change on her Instagram story.

As a part of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s goals for COP28, the wake-up call addressed toward various world leaders to curb meat consumption is aimed at reducing the rise of global temperatures by 1.5C which was highlighted in the Paris Agreement. According to the FAO, the main contributor to methane and nitrogen emissions is the one food source Danica Patrick loves more than any other, organic meat.

The plan is for the United Nations to advise developed countries responsible for over-consumption of meat products to dial down their intake to allow developing nations that require a larger meat industry due to nutritional deficiencies to focus on their livestock farming activities. Dhanush Dinesh, The founder of Clim-Eat, a non-profit organization working toward improving climate response in the food industry, was quoted by Bloomberg, “If we don’t tackle the livestock problem, we are not going to solve climate change. The key problem is overconsumption.”

The 41-year-old Danica Patrick was outraged by this development, and shared a post by UpwardNews about the ‘anti-meat’ campaign on her Instagram. She chose to sum up the situation with one just word – Dumb. It’s not the first time the thought of a vegan diet has gone sourly with Patrick. She had also previously shared a video of the difference between a mother on a vegan diet and another on a more meat-intensive diet during their pregnancies. Here, she called out the deficiencies in the placentas brought about by a vegan diet as showcased by the renowned birth specialist, Lindsey Meehleis.
