Home/NASCAR

Going by the standards he set for himself, Denny Hamlin has been suffering with poor form of late. He had three straight finishes outside the ‘Top-10’ before coming into the race at Kansas Speedway.

Hamlin, though, got straight back to winning ways. That too, in some style.

Those three performances before last weekend’s race don’t do justice to Denny Hamlin’s season. His win at Kansas, being a fifth race victory this season, is proof enough of the same.

Denny Hamlin is staying away from complacency

With the playoffs barely six weeks away, Hamlin seemingly possesses the much-needed momentum and confidence to grab gold. His eyes will be on the big prize though, with the Championship race that would feature the top four drivers.

Kevin Harvick is his biggest competitor, going into the business end of the season.

Hamlin understands the challenges of this season, especially with the new NASCAR rule of no practice, and he is not being complacent.

In a recent interview with FOX Sports, Hamlin said, “Every track is so different. Especially with the news of like no practice, it’s like, ‘Oh, boy, this season is going to come down to really a big old c***shoot at the end.

“Hopefully you got your car unloaded nicely. You don’t feel like you’re in a one‑up position, I guess you could say, by beating him (Harvick),” Hamlin added.

Hamlin boasts of 42 wins in NASCAR, which is the second-most of all time without a championship.

But with the NASCAR system, he is always in with a shot. In the playoffs, the ‘Top-16’ will drive three rounds of three-races, after which the ‘Top-4’ will fight it out in the championship race. The best among them will claim the title for themselves.

“Hopefully I win the last race of the season. That’s the goal. But there are no guarantees,” Hamlin said of the same, as he aims to take things one step at a time.

“We’re putting together a very, very solid season in many, many aspects. That to me is a great season. If we can somehow get to the final four, we have accomplished our goal.

“From that point on, the last 301 laps, whatever it is at Phoenix, we’ll give it our best shot and see where we stack up,” Hamlin said further.
