With Chase Elliott finally ending his drought at Texas, RFK Racing’s Brad Keselowski marked his first P2 finish of the season. A final lap overtime caution courtesy of Ross Chastain spinning out of podium contention had Keselowski initially in the P3 spot. However, NASCAR overturned the confusion, and now William Byron adds the P3 to his incredible record of three race wins this season.
A contentious finish leaves Brad Keselowski “frustrated”
The #6 Mustang Dark Horse qualified in a mediocre P22 spot alongside Legacy Motor Club’s Noah Gragson. Keselowski finished 6th in stage 2 before finally pushing through multiple stage 3 cautions and strategy hurdles to ensure RFK’s fourth top 5 this season. As Jamie Little of FS1 impressively stated after the race, this was Brad’s best finish at Texas since his P2 during the Team Penske days back in 2015.

“I’m not sure we finished third, I am gonna see a replay from NASCAR on that first before I concede that…” exclaimed the #6 driver. Nevertheless, laying out his own expert dissection, Keselowski also stated, “We didn’t have a ton of speed you know. Honestly, I am more frustrated than anything because I feel like we have a great team and we don’t have the speed to go with it and we’re doing all that we can do to overcome that. The driver-me is frustrated ‘cause I feel like there were races I am good enough to win and we didn’t have the speed to do it. The owner-me is mad as hell, ‘cause it’s my fault for not making the cars faster.”

Regardless, after a hard-fought race that saw him display the best performances out of all Ford vehicles, the 2012 champion commendably concluded, “Still proud of the team that we had the pit stops, the strategies, the executions and put ourselves in a position to get a finish we didn’t deserve, but earned with some never-give-up spirit again.”

Brad Keselowski never led any laps and was barely even in contention for a top-10 finish until the Stage 2 finish. In fact, Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano, Harrison Burton, and Todd Gilliland were the only Dark Horse drivers to even lead laps in the 276-lap overtime spectacle. RFK teammate Chris Buescher took the #17 Ford to another P15 finish, following up on his fortunes from Martinsville.
SHR’s Chase Briscoe was the second-best Ford on a scorching Texas Sunday, coming in at P6, while Tyler Reddick of 23Xi Racing and Daniel Suarez of Trackhouse finished in P4 and P5, respectively. Next week, the NASCAR season finally moves to Talladega, a track where Brad Keselowski won his final Cup Series victory in 2021 before going on a 106-race winless streak. Will the RFK owner-driver follow Elliott’s lead to break his Cup Series misfortunes? We find out on April 21st.
