Jeff Gordon was and still continues to be, one of those personalities and names that have done more for NASCAR than any other racecar driver has. This is simply because the four-time Cup champion was more than that. He was an icon in his day.

Gordon made the sport mainstream by taking it to places and faces it had never seen, places like SNL, and faces of a young new generation of fans.

But when an opportunity to do so again came on the table, to go ‘viral’ in a different of his career, was something he refused.

Yes, Gordon turned down the President of the United States in The White House.

This was back in 2014 when the Hendrick Motorsports driver and his wife were invited to dinner at The White House. According to USA Today, Gordon’s wife bragged about his dancing skills to the President, which in all honesty, all NASCAR fans are also aware of.

Upon hearing this, President Obama told the racecar driver, “Let’s see some breakdancing,” to which he refused.

Jeff Gordon explains the reason he turned down President Obama

Speaking about this incident later, Jeff Gordon opened up on the reason he refused to dance when President Obama asked him to. “I said, ‘No, I don’t think this is the right music for it,'” he described.

“He also suggested right after that it probably wasn’t wise of me to do that with getting toward the end of our season,” Gordon continued. “And I agreed with him.”

Well, there are not many people in the world who can say no to the President, but Jeff Gordon did.

This, in a way, bit of a stretch, but a truth nevertheless, furthers the point of just how iconic, great, and pure badass of a person Jeff Gordon was, is, and will be.
