The highly anticipated inaugural Street Race lived up to its promises of excitement and chaos. The extra layer of difficulty was added by the weather to control cars on wet surfaces. Although the race was started after 90 mins of delay, the wet conditions continued to pose a challenge, resulting in numerous skids and crashes. Unfortunately, one of the victims of this treacherous track was Austin Dillon.

At Lap 61, Austin Dillon was behind Justin Haley and aggressively looking for a lead. As he approached turn 12, his car’s right door made contact with the inside wall, causing him to slide to the left and damage the left front of his #3 Camaro. The severity of the impact forced him to retire from the race, leaving Richard Childress and his team devastated. It was a costly mistake by Dillon, ultimately denying Richard Childress a potential victory despite the tremendous effort put into the No. 3 Camaro ZL1.

Austin was running to take his first-ever race victory of the season at Chicago, with the added incentive of earning a spot in the playoffs. His teammate Kyle Busch had already secured his place with three wins, and Dillon saw this as his opportunity to join him.

With just 13 laps remaining, Dillon was running in second place, ahead of the formidable contender Chase Elliott and his teammate Kyle Busch. However, his hopes of a triumphant finish were dashed by an unfortunate crash that prevented him from meeting his expectations.

In a recent NASCAR video, Richard Childress’s grandson took responsibility for his mistake, pleading guilty to the error that cost Dillon a chance at victory.

“My fault boys, That’s what I get trying to make a little more speed,” Dillion said over the radio.

With the switch from JGR to RCR, he seems to have discovered newfound love in the fans’ eyes. He already won three races in the 2023 season to make his place into playoffs. However, his success goes beyond the statistics of his sixth consecutive top-10 finish in the season.

During lap 3 of a race, Busch found himself comfortably running in the top 10. Unfortunately, he lost control of his car, resulting in a hard crash into the tire barrier at Turn 6. Unable to bring his car back on track, the caution flag was waved.

Despite the setback, Busch showcased his skill and determination by making a remarkable comeback from the 18th position to ultimately finish in fifth place.
