As the summer season winds down, NASCAR content is thriving. Last week’s Richmond race delivered a thrilling new winner, while this week’s Michigan race promises intense competition as the playoffs draw near. But that’s not all—NASCAR enthusiasts are in for a treat with the latest episode of the ‘Dale Jr Download’. In a surprising turn, the latest episode featured a strongly opinionated Dale Jr discussing the unusual and “weird” clothing choices of a former Hendrick Motorsports crew chief.
During the lively podcast chat with Mike Davis, the ex-NASCAR Cup Series driver humorously poked fun at his then crew chief, Steve Letarte, teasing him about his fashion taste.

In a humorous exchange, Mike and Dale Jr discussed the fashion style to wear button-down shirts with initials on the sleeve or collar. They jokingly associated this fashion choice with a preference for “medium-plus” steaks, making playful connections between fashion and culinary taste. Dale Earnhardt Jr playfully commented on how the style felt distinctly “Letarte,” describing him as the type of person who would confidently rock such personalized attire. Mike agreed, adding that Letarte seemed unabashed about it.
“Unbashed” Mike commented. The conversation brought up Junior’s former hendrick motorsports crew chief, Steve Letarte, and his choice to wear such shirts.
“You know Letarte has a few shirts like that. You know who else have that? My kids, they had that on their backpacks.” shared Junior.
In the end, he asserted that he would never wear a button-down with his initials, finding the idea peculiar.“I’m never wearing a damn button-down with my initials on it. That’s weird.”
