Chastain has been very close to his mother, Susan Chastain and through thick and thin the two have stuck together. His mother once described how Chastain has seen several high points in his career, but his darkest era came in the year of 2018. This was the time when he used to race for Chip Ganassi Racing and their primary sponsor, DC Solar was raided by the FBI. It later turned out that the company was running a massive Ponzi scheme operation. After this revelation, Chastain’s career hung in the balance, and had no idea if he would be able to continue racing.
After this incident, Ross decided to fly back home to Florida, where his mother picked him up from the airport. Later on, Susan stated, “I just felt like he needed a minute to not talk about it. At the end of the day, I’m his mom. I’ve been carpooling him around his whole life and when he comes home I pick him up from the airport and that’s my baby.”
