Harrison Burton of Wood Brothers Racing is touted to be the next star of the NASCAR Cup Series. Having made his Cup debut in 2021 at Talladega, the 23-year-old is still trying to find his footing. However, it was in 2022 that he ran a full-time schedule with WBR but could only manage a 27th-place finish in points standings. In what was considered his comeback season, in 2023, he again drew blanks as he finished 31st in the points championship. The WBR does have an alliance with Team Penske but has been unable to take inspiration from the latter’s championship victories in recent years.
While Harrison Burton and his team are trying to crack the winning code with their No.21 Ford, it looks like they could well take inspiration from a NASCAR enthusiast who has made the most of his skill. A fan named Steven Downey recently posted a picture on X, showcasing his creation of a Ford 21 car into a bed for his son. Burton and WBR both were impressed by the craftsmanship on display and even shared the post on their X account.

It is not uncommon for NASCAR geeks to get everything done on the motorsports theme. While some ideas are far-fetched, this particular idea of a fan turning the remains of a Ford car into a functioning bed was just an outright genius move. The bed did look comfy and it also came with a front hood where one can store essentials. After seeing the creation made by the fan, Burton and Wood Brothers Racing reposted the creation on their X accounts.
Harrison Burton taking notice of the creation, reposted the project with a hilarious caption, “He’s getting at 8 hours of seat time every night… that’s commitment to the craft 😂” Meanwhile, Wood Brothers Racing was impressed by the skill, and shared the post with the caption, “This is so bada**”. Clearly, this creation had all the makings of a race car but now it’s got an even better job on hand.
What’s more impressive about this Ford-dressed bed is the attention to detail put into it. Not only did the car/bed have a similar paint scheme to Burton’s #21 Ford but also had the sponsors and other aspects of the car perfectly imprinted on it. Acknowledging Burton’s message, another user even went on to share his picture from back in the day when he had his own NASCAR custom-made bed. “I had a bunch of seat time back in the day, too!”

Signing a young guy to a team does mean a steep learning curve but in the case of Burton, WBR perhaps has to be more patient. This is in theory, while he sure has the potential to do better, more time in the Ford No. 21 could only boost his morale and help him improve on his previous results. Burton was on the brink of moving away from the team but he confirmed his continued ties with WBR last year at the Talladega race.
“At the end of the day, it’s fairly easy for me because I am happy where I’m at, and I hope to continue to race where I’m at,” Burton said as per a NASCAR.com report. “You know, it’s fairly easy for me to kind of just go to work with the guys that I’ve worked with for the last year and a half or so, and yeah, it’s not super distracting at this point.”
