Kyle Larson is no stranger to the victory lane. In fact, in 2021, there was a time when everyone expected to see him get to the checkered flag first at the end of every race. Such was the magical run that he had been having then. For many fans, his biggest win would be one of the ten that he clinched in 2021. But for Larson, it is somewhere different altogether, and it did not come in the Cup Series. not even in NASCAR.
The Hendrick Motorsports driver revealed his biggest win two years before he won the Cup Series title. His big moment came way before he reached his peak at the cup Series.

In a 2019 interview with Michael Waltrip in an episode of the Waltrip Unfiltered Podcast, he revealed his most significant moment as a race car driver. And the answer might shock you.
Larson said, “Okay, so, my biggest moment would be. My First Love Outlaws win in 2011, Chico Gold Cup. So just one of my first outlaw race. 2011 was a great year. I’d already won a bunch of big races leading up to that. And then winning. That was just huge.”
It’s quite fascinating that a non-NASCAR race is his biggest win. But he has a good reason for it as he explained, “I feel like Chico and Plasma will kind of. But Chico is like a home track. To me. And the Outlaws had beat locals there for the past, like 30-something years. So. To be a local guy. And when it was special.”
But that raises the question: how did he build a car good enough to win in one of his first few races?
How did Kyle Larson win the car lottery?
It turns out, it wasn’t a lottery at all! He had the ideal environment for a great car, “So I raced for Brent Kating that season, he’s in the Hall of Fame. He’s got nice, really nice equipment and smart people working around a lot of people working around him.”
He added, “And yeah. So we had good stuff, good engines, good shocks, good car. I mean, equal equipment to the Outlaws. So yeah, local guys, even though they’re local, they still have nice stuff.”
Having a great team and group to work on a race-winning car is essential. This is made evident by his Cup Series team, Hendrick Motorsports, who have built some of the best cars on the grid. Surely, the 2021 champ knows a thing or two about choosing the perfect group of people to work with.

Larson was quite emotional
It’s not a surprise that the HMS driver got a major adrenaline boost after his big win. Especially since it was against the World of Outlaws racers who consistently perform better as the #5 driver expressed, “They race so much that they just have more experience and know their cars and setup better than local guys.”
