Following Bubba Wallace’s fight with Kyle Larson and the subsequent media conversation, where Wallace appeared to defend his actions, former NASCAR driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr stated his observations and mentioned how the 23Xi Racing driver made at least one smart move, unlike William Byron.

Junior stated, “I think it’s, basically at this point, not NASCAR’s position to dive through the data and find intent. I think it’s more really Bubba’s position to provide the data that proves it that there was no intent. I mean to look like it was pretty obvious, I guess is my point, that Bubba tried to take him out…”

“Bubba’s saying exactly what he needs to say and not admit it right? That was Byron’s mistake. But I think everybody for the most part is pretty sure that it was an intentional clip of the right rear quarter panel that sends the #5 car into the wall. Takes the #20 car out. Bubba gets down and walks down the apron and then there’s the shoving match.”

“My position on this is, I think NASCAR is going to look at it through the same way and look it at through the same lens as they looked at the Gragson incident as they looked at the Byron incident.”

Right after the incident Wallace straight up denied that he retaliated and instead said, “Cliff is smart enough to know how easy these cars break. When you get shoved into the fence deliberately like he did, trying to force me to lift, the steering was gone. He just so happened to be there… I don’t lift.”

At this point, almost everyone can see that he was just plain lying, but what Junior argues is that he made the right decision to not complicate matters for his team by admitting that he did it, like how William Byron just agreed that punted Denny Hamlin on purpose.
