William Byron’s adventures in Texas, where he push and spun Denny Hamlin under caution, helped him earn a massive penalty, which might ruin his playoff chances. However, even after footage emerged of Byron intentionally hitting Hamlin, Hendrick Motorsports decided it would be fun to appeal the decision as if they were not at fault.

NASCAR journalist Bob Pockrass revealed, “Hendrick Motorsports will appeal the 25-point penalty and $50,000 fine to Byron.”
The incident began when Hamlin had reportedly forced Byron into the fence at turn 2. Byron thought the best way to retaliate would be to punt him off the track. But he did so right as a caution fell on the track, leading him deep into controversy.
Winning such an appeal is going to be nearly impossible for the Hendrick outfit, especially when there was visual confirmation that Byron did ram into Hamlin, that too under caution. Fans saw through the plot of it and called out Hendrick Motorsports’ audacity in filing an appeal on the matter.
NASCAR fans react to Hendrick Motorsports’ audacity to file an appeal
Fans called out Hendrick Motorsports to call for an appeal over William Byron’s penalty decision. They asked what would happen after they lost the penalty.
Some fans suggested that perhaps they wanted to run the appeal to try and incur fewer losses from the penalty. Some even joked as to what would they say when defending their appeal with the officials at NASCAR. One fan suggested that perhaps Hendrick knew that NASCAR would play favoritism with them and that they might have a chance at winning the appeal in some or the other way.

"Hey Nascar he didnt mean to gas it up right behind him and hit him" Lmaoo what could they argue

They’re probably looking for less of a penalty, because chances are if NASCAR had acted upon it during the race, he likely wouldn’t have lost as many points. It’s a fair move to make but not necessarily one I agree with, I think the penalty Byron got was fair.

Lol what a waste. Byron admitted he wrecked hamlin under caution in his interview. Come on man…

This might not end well for them. In the past, wrecking someone under caution was grounds for suspension.

Of course they will, HMS knows that NASCAR plays favorites. Them saying they'll "appeal" is synonymous with them offering to pass some money under the table to avoid the point penalty.

Regardless, if the penalty remains that would send Byron below the cutoff for the playoffs and make his next run extremely hard to remain in contention. Do you agree with what others have to say regarding the incident and the appeal later filled by the team? Let us know in the comments below.
