Every upcoming race at the Texas Motor Speedway will see the winners enter Victory Lane in the ‘Jimmie Johnson Winner’s Circle’. Shortly before Johnson’s final race started at the Texas Motor Speedway, the 7-time NASCAR Cup champion and 7-time race winner at the track was honored there.

Johnson unveiled the Jimmie Johnson Winner’s Circle’ on Sunday. The officials also gifted him a pair of cowboy boots, as per Texas tradition. Soon thereafter, Jimmie’s father, Gary Johnson, served as the Grand Marshal for his son’s final NASCAR race in Texas.

Gary gave the command to fire engines as a proud and emotional Jimmie looked on. The father-son duo received a huge round of applause from the fans present for the playoff race.

Tributes for Jimmie Johnson and Clint Bowyer

Along with Johnson, Clint Bowyer, who is also running his last race at Texas, was given a tribute by the Texas Motor Speedway.

Jimmie and Clint are tremendous ambassadors of our sport, both on and off the track. So we wanted to do something special for their final time here behind the wheel of a NASCAR Cup Series car,” said Eddie Gossage, Texas Motor Speedway President.

Interestingly, Bowyer and Johnson held the top two spots as the race was later pushed to Monday after a little over 50 laps.

Speaking about Johnson, Gossage said they decided to name the winner’s circle after him as no one has visited Victory Lane at Texas more than Johnson. “Jimmie knows his way to SpeedyCash.com Victory Lane better than anyone. So it was appropriate to do something special for him there,” he said.

Johnson’s performances at Texas are unmatched in many areas. His seven wins are the most by a Cup Series driver at the track. At the same time, he also has the most runner-up finishes (five). Johnson also holds the record for most top-five finishes in Texas (16). Additionally, Johnson has led over 1,000 laps in his career at the track.

Johnson also has a hat-trick of wins at Texas. He won three straight sets there in 2014 and 2015. The last of his wins came in 2017.

Johnson’s Texas tribute follows similar tributes by most of the tracks Johnson has raced at, since announcing his retirement from NASCAR. With just two races to go after Texas, a lot more of such honors will come Johnson’s way.
