Stewart-Haas Racing is enduring yet another indifferent season. The Tony Stewart co-owned organization continues to maintain the pattern of on-track struggles in recent years. It must be a unique feeling for a three-time champion like Tony. SHR continues to face problems in the Next-Gen cars that also have been the topic of ridicule from many people. The team has got it tough while fighting for points.
Some of the blame has also fallen on Ford’s part. The manufacturing company’s cars are going through a rough patch when it comes to their performance on the track. With only seven top-5 finishes in the first 15 races, except the massively experienced Kevin Harvick, the rest of the roster has not contributed much to the points. Aric Almirola is one of the drivers having to struggle in the season and in recent news, he spills the beans about the situation as well.

In a virtual interview uploaded by Kenny Wallace on his YouTube channel, Almirola shed light on the recurring problem with the Fords in NASCAR. With the addition of general problems in the Next-Gen car, manufacturer shortcomings are one of the topics Almirola has highlighted during the talk. He also takes the chance to show appreciation for Ryan Blaney on his win at Charlotte two weeks back.
“I think that we have potential in our cars, right. Blaney [No. 12 Ford Mustang] at Charlotte showed that. I still think that our cars are really aero-sensitive in traffic compared to the other manufacturers. Blaney did a great job of executing for all 600 miles and never really lost his track position.”
“So, when you look at that, you know I think that’s a key component of it.”
Talking about the overall delivery of performance by a Ford car, in a relatively congested grid, he lets out the reality saying, “I feel like our cars have the capability and the potential to go fast. But one of the things we’re continuing to work on is just making our cars raceable. It seems like we don’t quite have that figured out as well as the other manufacturers as far as being able to race in traffic.”
“I know that all the cars are bad in traffic, but it seems like we tend to be a little bit worse in traffic than our competition. So that’s one of the things that we’re continuing to strive to get better at is making our cars better in dirty air .”
“But we certainly know that we have potential to make our race cars go fast. You know, we just, we gotta execute. I feel like one last thing to add to that is as I feel like, as a manufacturer if you talk to all the four drivers I feel like our window is pretty small. If we hit it, we hit it, and if you’re slightly off, you’re really off.”
The conversation shows the required changes in the car but also how it keeps dragging them back. Team owner Tony Stewart did not shy away from the recurring questions on the team’s performance as well.

The 1997 Indy Car champion has shown his displeasure at how the issues only keep piling up for his team. Accompanied by former driver Clint Bowyer, Tony talked about the case on FOX Sports coverage of Charlotte Speedway. Speaking about the challenges with a limited amount of money and creative options, he said “Unfortunately, it’s something that we obviously do every week at the shop; we go and, in the team debriefs in competition meetings, try to figure out how do we resolve this. “
Stewart also gives a brief idea about how NASCAR keeps restricting their approach. “And it’s literally like we talked about earlier today. The window was so small for what the teams are actually allowed to do and how creative they can be that it really puts us behind the eight ball.”
