Earlier today, another piece of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series puzzle fell into place. After buying the Chip Ganassi Racing team, Trackhouse Racing has announced Ross Chastain as the #1 car driver. The driver has been in the CGR stable, driving the #42 car, and will now be promoted to the #1 car.

Additionally, Chastain will partner Daniel Suarez in the #99 car.

Of course, this also means that Kurt Busch is a free agent and is hunting for a drive. Rumor has it that he could be headed to 23XI Racing. However, that can only work out if the team acquires a second charter.

“Excitement is always the name of the game with an announcement like this, but it’s more than excitement for just another team,” Chastain said.

“I’ve been now, crazy enough, in this sport for 10 years. … It’s more than just another team. I’ve been fired and I’ve left teams and done a lot of things and could do a lot of things better but to bring it all full circle with somebody I’ve known my entire life in the sport and do it with a group that just truly feels like more than a team, that’s what made this process of getting in this car so much easier.”

Ross Chastain will be focused on the 2021 season

Now that the announcement is out of the way, Chastain can shift his focus to the remainder of the 2021 season. In terms of playoffs qualification, the current #42 driver sits in 18th place, two places away from the cutoff. With four races left and three spots remaining, the race is well and truly on.

Chastain is actually capable of delivering excellent results, as he has already snatched six Top 10 results. He even has a best finish of second, which he achieved at the Nashville Superspeedway. Now, he will be aiming for more results like that in the remaining four races. However, it will not be easy, as there are a few drivers who are just as quick as he is.
