Amidst these accelerated changes, an old team, which has its place in NASCAR’s history, has now teased the news of a possible comeback in the near future. This team in question paved the way for Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan’s team 23XI Racing to expand from a one-car team to a two-car outfit post the 2021 season.
If one is wondering which team is being referred, well it is none other than StarCom Racing. The team had pulled down shutters on its operations after it had sold its charter to 23XI Racing for $13.5 million. Nevertheless, it seems that the team could be ready to come out of the doldrums in the 2024 NASCAR season after the team owner left a cryptic message on a social media platform.
Long-forgotten StarCom Racing teases fans with a cryptic announcement

The team had entered the tracks of NASCAR back in 2017, fielding the 00 Chevrolet owned by StarCom Fiber and the 1990 Daytona 500 champion Derrike Cope. However, it was not until 2018, that the team entered full-time with Landon Cassill as its driver for two seasons. Cassill was later replaced by Quin Houff in the remaining two seasons till 2021. The best finish that the team has ever recorded was the 11th position secured by Cassill in the Daytona race in 2019.
After the culmination of the 2021 Cup Series season, the team terminated its operation and sold the charter to 23XI Racing. The second charter in turn helped Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin to bring onboard the former Cup Series champion Kurt Busch. Nevertheless, after two years of ceasing their operations, it seems that StarCom Racing is ready to start afresh. This was evident from a cryptic post by the owner of the team Derrike Cope on his Facebook profile. In the post, with the logo of the team, were the words, “Announcement. Stay Tuned. Coming Soon. 2 weeks to go.”
Cope also added the words, “Feeling excited.” Although the reasons behind the excitement were not disclosed, the owner did leave a few hints for the fans in the comments section. When a fan asked, “Purolator and Mane n Tale are back on board?” To this, the owner replied, “That would be nice!” When another fan inquired, “Xfinity? Trucks? ARCA?”, Cope replied, “Nice try ! But no, and it’s not Cup.”

Although a concrete answer is yet to be given by the team owner, the fans seem to have started their speculations about Cope returning for another Daytona 500 stint. Although the owner of the team has ruled out the hopes of returning to the Cup Series, the fans on the other hand are unable to contain their excitement for the upcoming announcement.

Under the post, a netizen commented while making their own prophecy, “You’re going to come back to Evergreen Speedway and race with us.” Another user wrote, “Now this is exciting!” Some, while being excited, didn’t want to wait anymore. They commented, “Can’t wait to hear your news.”
StarCom Racing although had a short span on the tracks of NASCAR, the team had surely created a dent in the hearts of the NASCAR community. Although the drivers failed to park the car in the victory lane, the team proved that they had the much-needed prowess to be a stiff competitor in the garage area. However, the sudden sale of the charter had taken the NASCAR world by surprise.
Nevertheless, with the mystifying announcement has once again reignited the excitement among fans. As a result, others speculated, “Is the new car coming to Road America?”
