Take Home a Racing ‘Icon’ for $150 as Richard Petty Announces Exclusive Wine Collaboration

As the holiday season edges closer, Richard Petty has released a product that would be perfect to bring home as a gift to a racing fan. NASCAR being one of the biggest motorsports organizations has a lot to do with what Richard Petty did back in the 60s and 70s. His skill on the race track gripped fans across the country and even today, he is revered by many as the greatest NASCAR driver of all time.

Richard Petty was the first person to win seven Cup Series championships in his career. Although that record has been matched a couple of times, he is still considered to be ‘The King.’ And perhaps there is not a better Christmas present than The King’s handpicked wine.

A delicious beverage handpicked by The King

Earlier this year Richard Petty partnered up with Shelton Vineyards to produce a unique red wine. It is made with merlot, petit verdot, malbec, and tannat. It is a blend which, the company claims, was handpicked by Petty himself. The product has a fitting name, ICON. It sells for $55 for a 750-ml bottle and $150 for a collector’s special 1.5-liter magnum.

The partnership between Richard Petty and Shelton Vineyards was celebrated on July 29 earlier this year with a fundraising event. It featured appearances by Kyle Petty and Michael Cansler, and there was a live auction as well. The money collected from the event went to Victory Junction, a year-round camp for children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses, and didn’t charge the families anything.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Richard Petty and the Petty family. Richard is a true icon and a person who shares our commitment to perfection. This partnership is a testament to the shared values and passion for excellence that both Shelton Vineyards and the Pettys embody. Together, we aim to create an extraordinary experience for wine enthusiasts and racing fans alike,” Mandy Shelton Houser, co-president of Shelton had said at the time.

The product is available online only on the Shelton Vineyards website and is claimed to be shipped everywhere. As per the company release, “ICON pays tribute to Richard Petty’s remarkable career, capturing his unwavering pursuit of greatness both on and off the track.”

Richard Petty is already considered to be one of the most successful motorsports athletes of all time. Yet, that hasn’t stopped him from earning more accolades, even at the age of 86.

The 7-time Cup Series champion was recently inducted into the Fairgrounds Speedway Hall of Fame. He was one of six inductees in 2023. The track held NASCAR Grand National and Winston Cup races from 1958 to 1984. Richard Petty won nine NASCAR races at the track.

“This is history, this is what made NASCAR what it is,” the 7-time NASCAR champion said in an interview with WBRC. “To be in the Hall of Fame makes it the icing on the cake.”
