NASCAR is not far behind in portraying a handful of such bromances, one being the bond between the two former Cup Series champions, Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart. The strength of this bond was reinforced in the latest post by the ‘Smoke’ himself on his Instagram profile.

Kevin Harvick’s gift takes Tony Stewart by surprise

In his final year as a professional racer in the Cup series, Kevin Harvick basked in the love of his fellow racing drivers and also the racing community. Although he failed to notch a victory before pulling the curtain on his racing profession, the driver made sure he showed his gratitude to the ones, who had helped in shaping his racing background, one such being the co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing, Tony Stewart.

Apart from winning the Cup Series championship for the team, Harvick has been an indispensable part of SHR by providing his insights into building the organization along with Stewart. Owing to the history between the two, Harvick did not forget to show his appreciation for his former boss and gifted Stewart the helmet that he had donned during his race at Indianapolis.

The design of Harvick’s Indy helmet replicated Smoke’s helmet in his maiden win at the Brickyard where Harvick had finished second to him.

Stewart posted the picture of the invaluable gift on Instagram writing, “Had a great night celebrating my bud @kevinharvick when we were in Charlotte. To top it off, he surprised me with his Indy helmet from his final season. The helmet replicates my helmet design from my first Brickyard win, that Kevin ran second to us. So awesome.”

The gift is a testament to the camaraderie between the two. Harvick will perhaps always remember the part Tony played in his career. So naturally, the former SHR driver makes sure he never leaves a chance to show his admiration for his former boss.

It is safe to say that Stewart has been one of Harvick’s biggest confidant, charting out not only his racing discourse but also his outlook towards the sport. The Hall of Famer did not shy away from sharing pieces of advice to his dear friend, which Harvick revealed in an interview.

He stated, “For me, I was fortunate to have a boss in Tony Stewart. He had some great advice on things that he liked and didn’t like about his last year of driving. One of his biggest pieces of advice was, ‘Hey, let your guard down. Let the fans and the racetracks and the sport help you go back and tell the story and just enjoy it.’ I think for me that was not something I would typically do.”

“But we took that advice and last November we sat down and said, ‘Okay, we want to tell a story about the past 30 years. We want to be able to let the tracks and the fans celebrate whatever moment it is, whether it’s a win or loss, whatever it was’.”

That being said, with the fire suit finally hung up, it will be an interesting spectacle to see Harvick hold a microphone in his hand instead of a steering wheel and brace the studio booth of FOX as a NASCAR journalist.
