In an unexpected turn of events on Saturday, DGM Racing driver Josh Williams dramatically parked his car at the start/finish line at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in the middle of an Xfinity Series race. Furthermore, the driver got out of his vehicle and waved at the fans while walking towards the pit road. And as a result, his actions attracted NASCAR’s wrath, as they announced a suspension penalty for Williams on Tuesday.
As reported by NASCAR.com, Williams was found violating sections 4.3.A, 4.4.B & D, and 8.7.6: NASCAR Member Code of Conduct and In-race Violations for disobeying the governing body’s request. During the race, Williams’ #92 Chevrolet Camaro was collected in a three-car crash. However, even though his pit crew and team tried hard to keep his car intact, they could not stop it from spewing debris on the track.
Since the debris falling off from the car became a reason for caution, NASCAR officials asked Williams to get his vehicle back in the garage and out of the race. This upset Williams, who decided to display his frustration by leaving his car parked at the start/finish line.

As a part of his penalty, the governing body has announced that Williams is suspended from competing in the upcoming race at the Circuit of The Americas.
Fans bash NASCAR’s decision to suspend Josh Williams
Many fans on Twitter argued that the penalty laid down by the governing body was not entirely justified. A few fans shared that Josh Williams’ actions were not a suspension-worthy incident. Whereas some explained that the parking of the vehicle was just a gesture he used to send a message across.
Criticizing the penalty announcement, fans wrote,
So it’s the same penalty as right hooking someone head on into the wall on the front stretch. That doesn’t seem like the penalty fits the crime this time around at all

That penalty is as crappy as Xfinity internet

While a few others felt that Williams did exactly what he was told to do. Citing that the governing body itself asked him to park his car, they said that they won’t be watching the next Xfinity race.
Race control literally told him to park it and he did just that. How is he getting punished? I will definitely not be watching the next xfinity race!

They told him to park it and he did so what's the problem. Definitely not watching the next @NASCAR_Xfinity pic.twitter.com/CeHd4JWMlz

Moreover, a few others questioned if the same would have happened if a big NASCAR name was involved in the incident. Pointing out how Williams’ actions actually brought attention to the driver issues related to too many cautions, they questioned if the same penalty and treatment would be meted out to a famous NASCAR driver.
A few fans also mentioned that the penalty was harsh but it has a silver lining to it. This was because the incident turned out to be a great topic for conversation, bringing some great exposure to NASCAR.
Terrible! Unbelievable! Probably brought more exposure for @NASCAR in a funny way. Would they have done that to a big name driver? No!

Pathetic. I knew NASCAR would find a way to stick it to the little guy. If a bigger name driver or a driver for a bigger team did the exact same thing I bet there would be no suspension.
