The Chili Bowl Nationals is the first big motorsports event of the year and also one of the most difficult. The midget racing event marks the start of the new season in American motorsports, and some of the best drivers from across the country travel to Tulsa to take part in it. Stewart-Haas Racing driver Chase Briscoe will also be racing to win the prestigious event. As far as he is concerned, there is no event quite as unpredictable as this one.

The inaugural edition of the prestigious midget racing event took place back in 1987. The event saw 52 midgets racing in various events over two days. Midget racing usually has a niche audience, but when it comes to the Chili Bowl Nationals, motorsports fans from all over the country take a keen interest.

For Chase Briscoe, 2024 has to be a year of redemption. Both he and his team could have been more impressive beyond measure last year, failing to pick up a single victory or qualify for the playoffs. The 29-year-old driver will be looking for a strong start to the new year, and the Chili Bowl Nationals would be the perfect place to do so. However, he has also acknowledged that the “raw natural side” of the event made it unlike anything else.

“The NASCAR side of things like that, you can play some games on restarts and things just because you know what each guy’s gonna do,” the SHR man said as per Speedsport.

“At Chili Bowl, you have no idea what they’re going to do. So that part’s a lot of fun for me. But yeah, it’s definitely interesting, going there and having 400-something entries. It’s a who’s who, but then at the same time, you just have some people that have never raced in their life,” Chase Briscoe added.

Tony Stewart’s star would not be going into the event as a rookie. He has taken part in the Chili Bowl Nationals in the past and figured out in his debut just how challenging the event really can be. He recalled his first race, which also involved a certain NASCAR Cup Series champion.

The year was 2015, and Chase Briscoe was only beginning to make his name in stock car racing. The Chili Bowl Nationals is the perfect event for any young driver to make his mark, and that is exactly what the Stewart-Haas Racing star wanted to do. One of the other competitors in that year’s event was Kyle Larson, and Briscoe spoke about his very first experience with the midget racing competition.

“We went and I remember starting in a heat race with Kyle Larson thinking that was the coolest thing ever. Here I was, racing this guy that I’d watched on TV. I got spun out right in front of him and we all crashed together,” Chase Briscoe said.

“I just remember how hard that event was, really from the get-go. My first kind of experience in it, I learned really quickly how everything kind of has to go your way. One hiccup can really affect your whole week.” he added.
