NASCAR reportedly holds its races at 42 different tracks all over the U.S. and Canada. And not one track is the same as another. In terms of terrain, size, length, and banking, each track has its own nuances. And these nuances go a long way in making assumptions about the outcome of NASCAR races. For example, 40 cars running on a road course and the same number of cars circling around an oval track like Charlotte Motor Speedway are bound to posit different spectacles for motorsports enthusiasts.

However, sometimes due to the intricacies that go inside racing styles, the margin of differentiation between a superspeedway and a speedway slackens. That might be okay for the Dirty Mo Dough guys, but Dale Earnhardt Jr is having a hard time adjusting to a trending naming convention.

While the tracks differ in appearance and other statistics, the lion-share of all the on-track action at NASCAR happens at the Speedways and the Superspeedways. Dale Earnhardt Jr has always been a big fan of the dare-devilish aspect of stock car racing. Therefore, Superspeedways are probably the tracks where the two-time Xfinity Series champion would go bubbling with energy.

Let’s do a case study here: Nashville Superspeedway is a D-shaped, 1.33-mile track, that has from time to time, hosted three Cup races, 24 Xfinity races, and 16 Truck Series races. However, according to Dale Earnhardt Jr, Nashville would probably not fare as a Superspeedway. One would ask, why?

In the latest episode of his podcast, Dale Junior exclaimed, “Anything under 2 miles is not a superspeedway, it’s just a speedway. Superspeedways are Daytona and Talladega. Everything else is a speedway, even Atlanta!”

According to him, the two superspeedways were also called NASCAR’s restrictor plate racetracks for 50 long years. No one knows what to call these tracks anymore because we don’t run a restrictor plate in the Cup series,” he added. Hence, the Dirty Mo Dough statistics guys canceled that name and came up with a brand-new name.

After making a long, suspenseful pause, Dale Earnhardt Jr mouthed the words, “The Drafting tracks.”

Co-host Mike Davis let out a sound of awe. After all, drafting is a technique that Cup Series drivers have been using for ages and on various different tracks. Old schooler Dale Junior admitted, “…maybe we should just stick to superspeedways.”

Mike Davis agreed and declared, “That’s where I’m at, it’s a superspeedway, those two.”

“So I’m looking at Russel and those guys and I’m like, why did you just go and let this guy climb the f*****g race for running at Atlanta?” roared Dale Earnhardt Jr.
