Anthony Alfredo, the #78 driver for BJ McLeod Motorsports, faced intense backlash from fans after his comments in a recent interview were seen as hypocritical. In an interview with FOX Sports, Alfredo mentioned that the wrecks were caused by inexperienced drivers, adding, “Just the usual; when you let kids drive cars faster than they have an ability for … very disappointing.”

Referring to himself and his team as underdogs, he said, “We’re a small team punching above our weights […] We have no friends out there, man. Nobody wants to work with the little guys.

“So, the fans are looking for an underdog to root for, it’s definitely us. We always outperform and over-deliver with what we got.”

He further expressed his delight with FOX Sports for interviewing him and the team, mentioning how they often felt under-represented and neglected.

One of the main criticisms that fans leveled against Alfredo is his own history of causing wrecks. While he may be a relatively new driver on the scene, he’s already been involved in several high-profile crashes. Fans were quick to point out that he seemed to be forgetting about his own past mistakes when he made comments about “kids” causing wrecks.

One Twitter user wrote, “Does Alfredo remember the cup wrecks he’s caused? Just checking.” Another fan commented, “Ironic considering he was that guy in 2020 for RCR.” These comments highlight the fact that Alfredo has been involved in multiple crashes during his career, and it seems disingenuous for him to point fingers at other drivers.

Another point of contention among fans was Alfredo’s comment about being an underdog who outperforms and over-delivers with what he has. Some fans pointed out that Alfredo comes from a well-off family and has been able to finance his racing career with their support.
