Home/NASCAR

Kyle Larson has established himself as one of the most versatile and talented drivers of his generation. Apart from his success in NASCAR, Larson’s racing career spans a variety of disciplines, including sprint cars and dirt racing. His victories in prestigious events like the Chili Bowl Nationals and the Turkey Night Grand Prix showcase his dominance.

Larson’s love for racing outside NASCAR has even influenced Hendrick Motorsports to revise its policies. Traditionally, NASCAR teams were hesitant to allow their drivers to participate in extracurricular racing activities due to the associated risks. However, Larson’s insistence on competing in various events led Hendrick Motorsports to relax these restrictions.

Recently, Larson made waves in Australia, where he competed in a sprint car event under unique circumstances. A local driver made the extraordinary decision to step aside, giving Larson a rare opportunity to drive his car. What followed was an unforgettable race that highlighted Larson’s talent and the generosity of the driver, who gave up his seat.

Kyle Larson’s beautiful payback

Earlier, this year, Kyle Larson announced that he would race in High Limit Racing in Perth. Despite a heartbreak in the NASCAR Regular Season, Larson utilized his off-season time to fulfil his promise. He got the opportunity to drive local sprint car racer, Jason Pryde’s car, in the prestigious event.

Pryde, who owns Jason Pryde Motorsports, didn’t hesitate to make the sacrifice, knowing Larson’s world-class talent. “You don’t often get one of the best drivers in the world wanting to race your car. It was a no-brainer, and we’re super proud to have called him our driver,” Pryde remarked.

It’s worth noting that Pryde is one of the most famous sprint car race drivers in Western Australia. His team, Jason Pryde Motorsports, is known for their success in sprint car racing and TA2 events. However, earlier this year, he was approached by one of their common friends who set up this unique collaboration with Larson.

Despite losing his seat, Pryde seemed confident and happy for his team and Larson. On a question about him driving at the three-daylong events in 2025, He said, “Yeah, we might as well say. It gets very better to it is hard watching but like I say it’s probably only one or two people that I give up my seat for and yeah certainly no regrets.”

Kyle Larson proved his worth and paid back to Pryde with a fighting victory in Perth. On the first day of the event, Larson struggled to get the pace and finished outside the top 10. Despite his struggles on the initial day, Larson led more than half of the race on Day 2. However, a crash forced him to finish outside the top five and finish ninth in the standings.

On the final day of the event, Larson came up with a plan to dominate. With nine laps to go, Larson made his final move to take the lead from the last two-day winner James McFadden. Larson placed his car in the inside line and not only took the lead, but also won the richest sprint race in Australia. Notably, he named almost 100,000 Australian Dollars as prize money.

Larson attempted the ambitious Memorial Day Weekend “double,” racing in the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600. Despite rain delays, Larson made waves in the Indy 500. Despite getting a pit lane penalty, he earned the Rookie of the Year honours. However, poor weather conditions led to the cancellation of Coca-Cola 600 which foiled Larson’s plans. “I didn’t get to do it the way I wanted, but I’m eager to try again,” Larson said after the race called off.

Looking ahead to 2025, Larson is gearing up for another shot at the double. He will join hands with Hendrick Motorsports and Arrow McLaren once again to make it possible. It’s worth noting that previously only Tony Stewart has been able to complete the double while many have tried the same. So, what do you think? Will Kyle Larson be able to make history in 2025?
