The NASCAR Truck Series for the Spire Motorsports has had highs and lows. While Rajah Caruth is sitting comfortably in the 5th position, with a win, his teammate Chase Purdy is not having the best season. The 24-year-old racer of Spire Motorsports is currently continuing his winless streak in the Truck series.
His 2024 season hasn’t been great at all. He is in the 14th position in points with just 4 races to go. He will next be seen at Richmond Raceway once the NASCAR series resumes. And considering how he fared last time he was there, things aren’t looking too bright. Yet Purdy has hope. In a video posted by Spire Motorsports, the racer stood strong and hopeful of not repeating his last Richmond performance.

Despite Purdy’s winless performance in the Truck series, Spire Motorsports believes in his ability. They offered him a permanent seat on the team this year. In the 2024 season, Purdy has struggled to find a strong footing and consistency. In the 15 races he’s driven in so far, he’s only managed one top-5 finish and four top-10s. However, he would like to put that back and try to get a win in Richmond, to secure his playoff spot.
In 2023, Chase Purdy was in a similar situation when he was driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports. He was sitting in 13th position and was in a must-win situation. However, in the 2023 Richmond race where Carson Hocevar took the checkered flag, Purdy came in 22nd. At the end of the 2023 season, KBM was bought by Spire Motorsports. Now Purdy is hopeful about doing a better job for his current team.
In a recent video by Spire Motorsport on Instagram, Purdy said, “Last year, we had a truck that was very capable of winning the race last year there unfortunately we made a mistake and I got a penalty and I hurt my chances of that happening. But I feel very confident going back into Richmond that we can pull a win out.”

The youngster still has a chance. If not with a win, he can still qualify by points. He is currently in the bubble with 338 points and is only 43 points behind Tanner Gray in 10th, who has 382 points. Lucky for him, none of his colleagues in the bubble have managed to secure a win, keeping his playoff chances still within reach. Hopefully, Purdy will produce some magic. If not, he could just face the same fate as Correy Lajoie, who was recently let go for his poor performance in the Cup Series. After which his career hangs in the balance, and a huge ‘what next’ question looms!

A demotion to a a lower league may be a good option for Corey LaJoie to win again and gain some confidence, however, he did not even manage to get a good finish in the truck series race this year. Notably, it’s just not been his year. In the e2024 Daytona race, Lajoie finished with a DNF as he crashed out.
Moreover, while talking about his chances in a lower series, LaJoie wasn’t so confident. According to him, the vacant seats can just be bought by the highest bidder. In the Stacking Pennies podcast; he said, “There are a lot of things outside my control there. I’m telling you that there are between 18- and 23-year-olds. There are 10 people that have more than $3 million to go buy a seat anywhere. The only ones, the rides that are valuable are gonna get bought, by guys with money. Whether it’s a Cup car, whether it’s a Truck, or whether it is Xfinity.”

Ultimately, the reason why not many teams are knocking on LaJoie’s door is his poor stats. He’s only got 4 top 5 finishes and 9 top 10 finishes in all the NASCAR series in his career. LaJoie however, blames the lack of opportunities for his poor performance. Reiterating this, he had said, “If you boil it down and I haven’t driven for, at the time a top 30 team in points in the truck series in the Xfinity series or the Cup series right in my NASCAR national career.”
Just like Purdy, it is also crucial for LaJoie to finish the season on a high note, as that would be detrimental in deciding if he will get a ride in the next season or not. What do you think will happen? Let us know in the comments below.
