One simply cannot question Kyle Larson’s talent. Debuting in the 2012 Camping World Truck Series, it didn’t take him long to move on full-time to the Xfinity Series (2013) and the Cup Series (2014). While many drivers consider a full-time Cup Series career and a simultaneous part-time Xfinity Series participation a handful, for Larson, that is probably where the fun begins. And this may very well be the reason he is up for one of the most precious accolades in racing.
Currently driving the #5 Camaro for Hendrick Motorsports in the Cup Series, Larson occasionally competes in the Xfinity and Truck Series, the 410 Sprint Cars, the Dirt Super Late Models, and even midgets. He is always among the frontrunners in major sprint and midget events like Kings Royal, Knoxville Nationals, and the Chili Bowl Nationals. Needless to say, Kyle Larson is obsessed with racing. While Larson’s racing prowess cannot be questioned, his recent nominations for ‘”Best Driver” has fans at loggerheads.

Apart from the 2021 Cup Series championship, Kyle Larson also has multiple awards and accolades in the different disciplines of racing he competes in. Aptly nicknamed “Yung Money” for his success in big-purse events, Larson’s ability to quickly adapt and dominate is second to none. Currently sitting at the 9th spot on the Cup Series standings, Larson has bagged wins in Richmond and Martinsville, as well as the million-dollar All-Star Race in North Wilkesboro.
Last year, the HMS ace won the Best Driver Award at ESPN’s ESPYS 2022. With his name added to NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers, Kyle Larson has once again been nominated for ESPYS 2023 Best Driver Award. The award honors the achievements of an individual in the world of motorsports. Among the other nominees are NHRA’s Brittany Force, IndyCar’s Josef Newgarden, and F1’s Max Verstappen. NASCAR drivers have won this prestigious award a record 19 times and there is a high possibility of Yung Money bagging it again.
While Kyle Larson’s nomination has been a cause for celebration, it has also divided the NASCAR fandom.

As ESPN announced the nomination list for ESPYS Best Driver Award, NASCAR fans had divided opinions regarding Kyle Larson. Crossing swords with each other, some fans were conflicted with the choice of driver. While some fans commented, “2 lower series wins and an allstar race aren’t flexes,” others showed their support, writing, “He’s literally the only one on this list that races and wins in multiple different disciplines of racing.” Here are some more mixed comments from fans.
“What has Larson done since 2021 to even be considered the best NASCAR driver”
“He has 2 wins and the all star race plus a win in both lower series. That would probably be the argument but I’d rather put byron or busch there”
absolutely terrible list for the best driver of the year lmfao, granted it’s espn so you can’t expect much but still 🤷♂️ pic.twitter.com/Cq5lAdgpfg

“nascar is kyle busch if you’re talking about this year it’s between Bayron or Busch.”
“It doesn’t say best nascar driver it says best driver and he has won in like 10 different types of cars this year.”
“Well in 2022-23 tied for most wins with 5, since 2020 has most wins of anyone with 15, since 2019 has 2nd most wins with 16 only Hamlin with 18 has more. Those are cup wins only not including xfinity and truck.”
