Just when you thought Busch’s regular season was going well, with three exhilarating wins at Auto-Club Speedway, Talladega, and Gateway, the playoffs have presented a perplexing puzzle. The #8 Chevy, once a beacon of hope, now faces a stormy sea of inconsistency. Will Busch’s playoff dreams endure the turbulence?
During a recent interview, Denny Hamlin was asked, “I just want to ask you about Kyle Busch. Is he any different of a, you look at him any differently now that he’s in RCR than JGR as far as whether he’ll be how competitive he will be over the next seven weeks?”
“I don’t know,” Hamlin responded. “I mean, I think maybe the field does. I don’t necessarily. I still know that he’s great. He can carry equipment, a fair amount. That’s assuming that equipment’s not 100%, which I think it probably is. No, I don’t personally look at him any differently. I think it’s kind of like absent blows though of who’s running good right now.”
Richard Childress watches the spectacle unfold in the cockpit of the No. 8 Camaro. A racing legend in his own right, Childress took a chance on Busch, and it initially seemed like a match made in heaven. However, in the turbulent 2023 season, the old ghosts seem to be reawakening. What exactly is going on in RCR with Kyle Busch?

When Busch switched from Joe Gibbs Racing to Richard Childress Racing, hopes soared. Those early victories at Auto Club and Talladega, and that runner-up finish at COTA, painted a picture of resurgence. But like a temperamental engine, consistency eluded him. Bristol and Kansas witnessed his performance graph plummet, with a dismal P20 finish.
In the aftermath of Bristol, Busch’s frustration was palpable. He blamed the Camaro, inadvertently pointing fingers at his team. He lamented the lack of front grip, the woes of rear grip, and the imbalanced springs that haunted his race. The question lingered: can the team resolve these issues and return to the race?
