Following a thrilling 400-lap short track race at Richmond, race runner-up and NASCAR’s latest antagonist, Denny Hamlin, is back in the spotlight. Unlike last week, when Hamlin earned notoriety by donning the villain persona, this time around the veteran Joe Gibbs Racing has captured the community’s attention with his popular Action Detrimental podcast.

With the Cup Series schedule going on its course and nearing the playoffs, the 42-year-old is back in his studio to discuss the Chicago victor, Shane Van Gisbergen’s “resume.” Speaking to his friend and co-host, Jared Allen Hamlin gives his take on the Kiwi’s impressive career while he answers Allen’s question, “Does the ability to adapt to different track conditions include track shape?”

Transitioning into various disciplines is not new in racing, whether it be the great Tony Stewart, who claimed his first-ever drag national event earlier this year after his move to conquer the NHRA drag strip. Or be it the Australian Supercar champion, Shane Van Gisbergen, who captivated not just the NASCAR nation but the whole of the racing community with his stellar performance at NASCAR’s inaugural Street race in Chicago.

While Cup Series drivers struggled to maintain traction in the rain-soaked tight lanes of downtown Chicago, the Kiwi did not let the conditions halt his surge to the top. Being at the helm of Trackhouse Racing‘s Project 91 Chevy, he put on a blistering pace to outpace the field, showing his superior racing prowess.

And now, with more updates coming from the driver’s end, he is looking to return to NASCAR and confirming his presence at the upcoming Indy road race. Denny Hamlin has dug up the driver’s secret using the Chat GPT. “I’m on Chat GPT, and I’m going to ask AI what makes Shane Van Gisbergen a great race car driver because usually, it’ll pop up, you know it searches all the stuff, it’s going to tell us what the internet thinks why is he great at what he does and what is his specialty, so let me get back on that,” said the 42-year-old before giving out the details. 

Surprisingly or not, the AI platform gave us what most of us had in mind. Reading out the search result, Hamlin said, “Okay, so AI says he’s a highly talented race car driver known for several qualities that contribute to his greatness, he possesses exceptional driving skills, a deep understanding of race craft, and the ability to adapt quickly to different track conditions, additionally his determination focus and consistent performances on the race track he’s earned him numerous victories and accolades. However, for the most up-to-date information check again…Man, that sounds like a resume.

Though the veteran acknowledges SVG’s abilities, Hamlin also feels like there’s more to the driver, and NASCAR nation will get to know about his craft once we get to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the much-awaited road course just weeks away. He also gave a realistic answer when Allen questioned the 34-year-old’s ability to adapt to track shapes.

Yes, NASCAR and Supercars Championship racing are two different promotions. Obviously, for someone coming from the more road-focused racing series, NASCAR’s inaugural Street race might not be a great challenge, unlike NASCAR drivers who are more into oval racing and Superspeedway action.

And SVG proved just that, outrunning the entire field, and displaying his superiority. However, for someone who is accustomed to driving on the right side of his car, his Grant Park 200 was nothing short of incredible. While Hamlin was reading out the search result, Allen quickly jumped in with an interesting question, “Does the ability to adapt to different track conditions include track shape?” 

To which the #11 JGR driver said, “We’re gonna know more after the Indy road course race. I think it’s awesome to have someone too, who is at the highest level in Australia in the supercars wanting to come to NASCAR, he obviously had a great experience, and he liked what we’re doing.”

Even the outspoken veteran is impressed by the Kiwi’s mentality, saying, “he‘s willing to leave what he’s comfortable with to come over here and challenge himself, that’s awesome.”
