William Byron could not be present at the #24 Super Late Model testing due to his prior engagement at the annual NASCAR banquet. Having been among the championship race contenders, he was among the first names on the guest list. Crew chief Fugle and Lines went on with the schedule and did it without Byron. Lines has been Byron’s spotter since 2022 and switched teams from Ryan Preece‘s No. 37 car at JTG Daugherty Racing.

Thanking William Byron and Hendrick Motorsports for making a swift return to his family possible, Lines wrote on Twitter, “Well…I made it to Indianapolis post Snowball Derby after an expedited flight thanks to William Byron and Hendrick Motorsports. I think I have the best support system. I lost my sister on Friday to a courageous battle with cancer.”

“I’m not sure that I will ever be the same, but I know she is no longer in pain or suffering, which gives me some relief. I’ll never be able to respond to all the messages and one on one conversations that I had this weekend, so all I can say is thank you for thinking of me and my family at this time. I’m going to shut off social for a while and appreciate the time I have with my family. #CancerSucks”

The NASCAR fandom was shocked at the news and felt sorry for Lines, who had to continue at the Five Flags Speedway with such heartache. Condolences and prayers have come pouring down as fans mourn Lines’ loss.
