On Sunday, many were excited to see the official NASCAR Cup debut of Kimi Raikkonen. The Finnish F1 veteran qualified in 27th and was actually running fairly decently for a while.

Unfortunately, his race was ended prematurely, and it was all thanks to a certain Ross Chastain. To be fair, Chastain didn’t bump into the Finn, but his original victim was Austin Dillon.

As the Richard Childress Racing driver spun, the pack swerved to avoid him. This triggered a concertina effect and resulted in Loris Hezemans bumping an innocent Raikkonen into a tire barrier.

Although Hezemans was the one next to the 42-year-old driver, Chastain was indirectly responsible.

How did fans react to the Kimi Raikkonen and Ross Chastain incident?

If we’re being honest, Chastain pretty much committed a blunder. To be precise, he triggered a wreck that saw his own teammate out of the race.

In the end, Chastain finished all the way down in 21st place, while his other teammate Daniel Suarez was 5th. All in all, it was a mixed day in the office for Trackhouse Racing, with Suarez being the only bright spark.

Naturally, there were many fans who were furious with Chastain for his antics. Some declared that he was a menace on the track and should not be allowed to race at Daytona.

Others compared him to former F1 race winner, Pastor Maldonado, who had a reputation for crashing into other drivers.

Most of their ire was because Chastain is no stranger to being an aggressive driver. Although he has apologized often, he is often back to his usual self by the next race.

Suffice to say, it has made many of his rivals angry, particularly the likes of Denny Hamlin, who has been very vocal. Now, there is just one race left in the regular season, and then the Playoffs begin.
