It’s not uncommon to hear of racers transitioning to NASCAR after making their mark in F1, dirt cars, sprint cars, or even motorcycle racing. Yet, tales of drivers departing NASCAR for unfamiliar terrain are few and far between. This narrative, however, is taking a curious twist. A notable driver from the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, infamous for seemingly targeting Hailie Deegan on the track, is now steering his ambitions elsewhere.

While the #5 driver isn’t exiting NASCAR, the potential diversion of his focus might just offer Hailie Deegan a sigh of relief, seeing her formidable rival momentarily preoccupied.

As the countdown for the Championship 4 contenders accelerates, the off-stage intrigues show no sign of slowing down. With the 2024 season beckoning, teams and drivers are jostling for the limelight, and in true NASCAR style, there’s a generous sprinkle of theatrics. Center stage in this drama is Hailie Deegan’s notorious adversary, #5, Dean Thompson, who recently stoked flames of anticipation, only to leave fans somewhat bemused.

The Deegan-Thompson rivalry is the stuff of legends, setting the tracks ablaze from North Wilkesboro to Kansas. Their trucks have done more than just graze each other; there’s been a fervent exchange of words and intense trackside encounters that have had fans gripping their seats in anticipation.

While the whole narrative has been quite thrilling, in a surprising twist, Dean Thompson took to Twitter to announce his foray into kickboxing, a revelation that might just offer Deegan a breather. Will this newfound passion divert Thompson from his on-track skirmishes with Deegan? One can only hope.

Thompson’s tweet buzzed with excitement: “I’m also pumped to share with y’all that I’ll be competing in my first kickboxing match in December! Kickboxing / MMA has been a passion of mine and as y’all know I’ve been training for a while now so I’m really excited to embark on this challenge. Thank you to Cliff at Kinchen Martial Arts Academy and everyone at TPC for helping me get prepped!”

Interestingly, while Deegan often faces the brunt of criticism from NASCAR enthusiasts, Thompson’s announcement saw the Twitterverse migrating to Reddit, rallying in Deegan’s defense and pointing fingers at Thompson for his repeated on-track tussles with the female NASCAR sensation.

Others playfully critiqued his driving prowess, musing, “I hope he’s better at kickboxing than he is racecar driving or he’s going to be in bad shape come next racing season.”
