In 2022, NASCAR is expected to run the Next Gen car. Before it can make its grand debut, it has to undergo various tests. Earlier, it was announced that Martin Truex Jr and Kurt Busch would have a run at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
In light of this, Truex Jr spoke about his first impressions of the car and what can be improved. All in all, Martin Truex Jr confessed that it worked like a dream on the road course.
He said, “The biggest thing, obviously, is that there’s less horsepower than what we raced here. The tires are bigger, it’s got more gears in the transmission. It’s sequential, it’s got really big brakes, it does everything a little bit better. A little bit easier to drive, in general, around the road course.”

Aside from those little kinks, the car was “solid and fun to drive”. Interestingly, Martin Truex Jr disclosed that the car is much faster, even with less horsepower. To put it into perspective with the current model, the two are almost equal in pace.
Truex even said that there is an open dialogue between the drivers and the team behind the car. In other words, while he can provide some feedback, and the team also has the ability to provide their own data. Together, both parties can give inputs to improve the car and help it be more competitive.
