Leaving something behind is never easy. Especially when it’s something that has been a constant throughout the years. Joe Gibbs Racing driver Kyle Busch has been experiencing something similar after he announced his departure from the team earlier in September.

During an episode of the Race for the Championship, Kyle Busch indulged in a candid conversation about his situation at Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) with his wife Samantha. With everything that Kyle said, it was clear that what hurt Kyle Busch the most were the apparent ‘false promises’ made to him at Joe Gibbs Racing.

A part of this exchange was shared by Zach Sturniolo on his Twitter feed. In his conversation about his departure from JGR, Busch talked about his 15-year association with the team. Moreover, his wife, Samantha Busch told Kyle, “I never thought we’d go through this.”

Acknowledging Samantha’s views, Kyle added; “Not from all the words we were given for years of, ‘You’re our guy. You’re our franchise. You’re gonna retire here.’ Those were a lot of, whether you call it false promises or whatever.”

Kyle’s words indicated that this departure was not something that the two-time Cup Series champion expected. Furthermore, he said that he viewed the JGR team as his family. For 15 years, the team has supported the #18 driver and parting ways was not an easy decision for him.

He said, Something that’s so disappointing to me & so hurtful about this whole situation with JGR is they were like family. For 15 years, Joe [Gibbs] had my back in the stupidest of moments that Kyle Busch was. Like, he was there for me. And it’s gone. Like, it just (snaps) flipped.”
