Things look quite good now for Joe Gibbs Racing. JGR ace Denny Hamlin just bagged his 50th Cup Series victory and 600th victory for Toyota. Moreover, they just signed Mavis Tires as their latest sponsor. All these events call for popping the champagne for Joe Gibbs.

However, more than being a proud racing team owner, Joe Gibbs was given a cause of celebration by none other than his grandson, Ty Gibbs. After Ty’s Pocono performance, Joe Gibbs is now a proud grandfather too. While the youngster competed for the Rookie Of The Year title this year, proud grandpa and NASCAR legend Joe Gibbs shares in a post-race presser what his racers’ recent achievements mean for him as a team owner.

Sunday was an emotional day for Joe Gibbs as his team bagged one achievement after the next. While Denny Hamlin did receive a minor lash-out for his clash with Kyle Larson, it was short-lived as the celebratory moment ensued. His grandson Ty Gibbs had also bagged a top-5 finish at what is deemed one of the trickiest races of the season. In return, Grandpa Gibbs had quite a wholesome reply when asked what it meant for him to see both his grandson and Hamlin in the Top 5.

I think this is so hard to do. It’s the best people in the world racing cars. It’s extremely hard. That’s the reason with we just brought up the point there, of Ty.

“When you step up to Cup, it normally takes a long time to get to a point where you can race with the guys up front and win. It’s just hard. So, I think because of that, when you get a chance to have a day like we had today, I think I’m really, really proud of our whole team and everybody back home,” he said.

Senior Gibbs’s words are also enough to give fans a vague idea as to why Ty Gibbs will most likely be the worthy recipient of the Rookie of the Year Title. He further expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his teammates who actually made these achievements possible.

We hang a banner tomorrow in our shop. I get a chance to thank all those people. It’s a huge deal for all of us, our sponsors. Like I said, FedEx. I think it kind of makes me realize how fortunate I am to be a part of this. I appreciate the people that we have around us as a part of our team,” concluded Gibbs.

As debates keep rising about the Rookie of the Year Title, these performance stats provide some level of clarity. Ty Gibbs has more than 6 Top 10 finishes this season, whereas Gragson has had only one Top 10 finish yet. Bagging Top 5 finishes in his first full-time season, Ty Gibbs has really set the bar high for rookie performances.
