For Joey Logano, 2025 has been brutal. Picture this: Before the Martinsville race, Logano had led the most laps in the entire Cup series this season without a top-10 finish! From incidents on pit road to being involved in wrecks, Logano has had a torrid time trying to get around the grid. However, things took a turn for the better at Martinsville with his first top-10 finish, but Logano was left fuming at the way he was raced by one particular watermelon farmer.
Joey Logano’s had enough. The reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion is fed up, frustrated, and firing shots after a chaotic Cook Out 400 at Martinsville Speedway on March 30, 2025. What should’ve been a chance to claw back into contention turned into another gut punch for the No. 22 Team Penske driver. And this time, he’s pointing the finger squarely at Ross Chastain, letting loose a raw, emotional outburst that’s got everyone talking.

Joey Logano calls out Ross Chastain’s careless antics
The race itself was a rollercoaster. Denny Hamlin dominated, leading 274 laps and snapping a 10-year Martinsville drought with his 55th career win, but behind him, tempers flared. Logano, already battling a tough season, managed to pick up a win in Stage 1 but found himself tangled up with Chastain’s No. 1 car late in the race. The #1 and the #22 were running close to each other all day, and it erupted on Lap 317.
Chastain was incessantly blocking everyone behind and when he attempted one on Chase Briscoe, Logano was the one who paid the price. Chastain slammed the brakes, and Briscoe had nowhere to go. The #19 hit the curb and bumped Logano’s left rear, which sent the latter spinning off and caused a caution. Logano still salvaged a top-10, but the sting of what could’ve been lingered. On the radio, he didn’t hold back: “That guy’s a jack—. He just asks for it doing that stuff, y’know? Like, jeez.”
Here’s where it gets real. After the race, Logano opened up, “I keep paying the price, and I’m sick of paying the price.” When asked if he had anything to say to Chastain, Logano held back the urge to let go. “Not at the moment, nothing good,” Logano said with a grin across his face. “Twice in the last three weeks, so that’s the deal,” he added, referring to Chastain’s blocking tactics at Las Vegas earlier in the season. The veteran is taking note, and he’s not happy with the #1’s actions. Logano was frustrated, so he pivoted to a more positive aspect of the race, but you could feel how annoyed he was at the opportunity that had slipped by him at Martinsville.
Logano added, “Yeah, at least we finally got a top ten on the year. I’ve been sick of hearing all those things, so at least we got a top ten. But it’s a little bittersweet, just because… You never know, right?.. If we were able to have a couple good restarts, our pit stops were really good today. We were doing a good job on pit road. Maybe we could have got up there and mixed it up with them, but just… Yeah, we just had to recover again. Another race we had to recover.” Joey Logano has been trying to recover all season.

Is Ross Chastain's aggressive style ruining races, or is Joey Logano just making excuses?
Have an interesting take?
From getting wrecked after leading laps at the Daytona 500 to leading 80+ laps at Atlanta and Phoenix, only to finish 12th and 13th in those races, misery has been by his side all season. He has picked up stage points in every race but always seems to falter as the race winds down. This time, however, he looked much better in the final stage than he did in any of the previous races, only for it to be ruined by Ross Chastain.

So what’s next? Logano’s not pretending anymore. He’s sick of recovering, sick of Chastain’s antics, and sick of losing ground. This isn’t just a rant, it’s a promise. Chastain better watch his mirrors because Joey’s coming, and he’s bringing the heat right back. And Chastain wasn’t the only driver at the end of Logano’s rage this week, as the #22 seemed to be fuming all race.

Ty Gibbs was at the fury of the 2024 champion
Joey Logano and Ty Gibbs clashed hard during the Cook Out 400, and you could feel the heat through the screen. Ty Gibbs was struggling with a cool-suit issue on Lap 201 while Logano felt Gibbs was driving him into the wall. Luckily, before the #22 could retaliate, a caution flag was thrown as Riley Herbst spun out after going three-wide. Logano didn’t hold back on the radio, letting his frustration rip: “That f—– put me in the wall. He knows what’s gonna happen.”

This isn’t their first tangle. Remember the Clash at the Los Angeles Coliseum in 2024 when Gibbs ran Logano up the track after a late-race restart? What followed was a heated exchange post-race that captured Logano’s rage. And entering 2025, he admitted that his feud with Ty Gibbs is still ongoing, despite several conversations. “Everyone is gonna keep a score sheet on each other, and that’s just what it’s like, but I felt like that was too far. If you want to know where the line is, that was too far. He [Ty Gibbs] didn’t even win the race, either, so it wasn’t smart on his part, either.”
The season is heating up with the fifth different winner being crowned today, and so are the rivalries. Logano got into it with Chastain and Gibbs while Gibbs was seen confronting Tyler Reddick at pit road. What’s next? Well, the series moves to Darlington Raceway next week, so keep your eyes peeled for any tension between Logano and Gibbs, as things seem to be reaching a boiling point for the #22.
