Words, especially by people who have a considerable fan following and social presence, can have undesirable consequences. This is exactly what happened with Denny Hamlin. Not long ago, he admitted to having intentionally wrecked Ross Chastain, following which he was heavily penalized for $50000.
In a recent conversation on The Dale Jr. Download podcast, Dale Jr and Mike Davis opened up about how Twitter is flooded with fans’ reactions of all kinds. They mentioned that there are some who advise drivers to not speak out, especially on a podcast. This, according to the co-hosts, is not something that most fans want. Moreover, a renowned motorsports journalist had a sarcastic response to one such tweet.

Dale Earnhardt Jr became a fan of the journalist’s tweet
Jeff Gluck, a journalist for The Athletic Motorsports, had previously expressed his frustration on Twitter about the penalty imposed on Denny Hamlin. He tweeted, “These guys settled it and called a truce. Apparently, the only way to pay someone back is to make it look like an accident and lie about it.” This saw a number of fans responding that Hamlin should not have gloated about it and tested NASCAR.
No. You also don't have to tell on yourself with a podcast. Just keep mouth shut, nothing happens.

Jeff Gluck badgered the fan with his sarcastic reply, “Yeah! You tell ‘em! That’s what NASCAR needs […] Shut up and race, guys! And definitely don’t do any podcasts.”
Yeah! You tell ‘em! That’s what NASCAR needs, for all those drivers to keep their damn mouths shut. They show WAY too much personality as it is. Shut up and race, guys! And definitely don’t do any podcasts. Thank goodness they’ll all be quiet now. Phew. What a relief! https://t.co/K6vUuAQqFQ

During the conversation on this subject, there was a hilarious barrage of curse words as Dale Jr and Mike Davis discussed the tweet by Jeff Gluck. Junior said, “I’ll go to Jeff Gluck’s tweet, which was one of my favorites from yesterday.”

Seeing Junior’s support for Gluck’s tweet, Davis too showed his support by sharing that he finds such fans to be hypocrites and that they are probably the reason why drivers keep their mouths shut.

Mike Davis finds the fans’ attitude hypocritical
Due to the fact that several fans suggested that Denny Hamlin should have kept his mouth shut, Mike Davis called out such an attitude as hypocritical. He believes that these are the same fans who complain of a race being not interesting. He said, “the same ones that’ll vote in Gluck’s Twitter poll that the race was no good are also the same people with the same lazy take that drivers need to shut their mouth. It’s hypocritical.”

It takes courage to admit an act contrary to the rules. However, if fans demotivate such behavior, will it be good for the sport? Will it take the aggression out of NASCAR races or will there still be intentional wrecks and brawls, followed by silence? It’s on the fans to decide.
