In a recent press conference held in Nashville, NASCAR driver Chase Elliott made it clear that he is not buying into the narrative surrounding his team, Hendrick Motorsports. With the season progressing with zero wins so far, there has been speculation about whether the team needs to make significant changes or adopt a different approach.

However, Elliott’s response to a question about perseverance indicated that he believed in staying the course and maintaining the status quo.

Elliott stated, “Not really, honestly. I feel like a lot of times when you put yourself in those situations, it doesn’t always get better when you’re 11 out of 10, right? I think just being in that nice sweet spot of pushing but not pushing too far, and pushing yourself and your team, but not pushing them too far. So I think there is a balance there where I feel like we’ve done the best and had the best results, and I think that’s just where we need to stay, personally.”

He believed that their current approach has been sufficient to contend with other teams, and therefore, saw no need for a drastic change. Elliott emphasized the significance of executing their plans effectively, staying focused, and sticking to their established strategies.

“I guess, short answer – no, I don’t think we need to push too hard or do anything crazy. I think our approach needs to be the same and just make sure we’re executing the things that we talk about and the things we’re zoned in on,” Elliott affirmed. Despite the challenges faced this season, he expresses his anticipation for the remaining races and the opportunity they present.

As the NASCAR circuit returns from a week off and heads to a track where Elliott emerged victorious last year, the combination seems ideal for a reset and a strong performance in the playoff chase. Reflecting on his recent race at Sonoma Raceway, Elliott expressed confidence in his team’s ability to build on the positives from that event and carry the momentum forward.

“Yeah, I think so. Sonoma was a nice run for us. We didn’t win or anything, but I think we just had a good, solid weekend,” Elliott remarked. “Just thought we did a lot of little things good last weekend, and I felt like I kind of just plugged right back into a good stride and a good cadence. I think that cadence and that stride that we executed with in Sonoma can result in great results from here to Daytona.”

While Elliott acknowledged the challenging position they find themselves in, he viewed it as an excellent opportunity to rise to the occasion. The combination of a successful past experience at the Nashville track and the renewed confidence gained from their recent performance provides a strong foundation to make the remaining races of the season count. It will be intriguing to see if Elliott’s unwavering belief pays off and if HMS can continue its competitive edge on the NASCAR circuit.
