“Shocked” Former NASCAR Driver Confronts Kyle Larson: “Why Are You Saying That Now?”

The last week’s NASCAR Cup Series at Bristol Motor Speedway received rather mixed responses from the community. Even after NASCAR’s efforts to make the dirt race exciting, a large part of the fraternity doesn’t appreciate the race in the dirt. The Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson is one of the NASCAR drivers that expressed his displeasure earlier this week, along with a large faction of fans. While most fans are divided over this, NASCAR veteran and dirt racing great Kenny Wallace admired the format.

Speaking on his popular YouTube channel, the NASCAR veteran driver also shared his thoughts about Kyle Larson making his remark. Though NASCAR drivers and fans have contrasting ideals about the dirt format, Kenny Wallace had blunt words for Kyle Larson!

Kenny Wallace reveals his disagreement with Kyle Larson

The former NASCAR driver who now is in the popular NASCAR Race Day program had Hendrick’s driver joining him in the show at Bristol. Now coming to the race itself, Larson certainly had a tough time. He engaged in a bloody battle with his fellow driver, Ryan Preece, and things did not end well for him.

After listening to Larson speak about his dislikes of dirt racing, Wallace had some interesting responses to his comments. He said, “I don’t agree with Kyle Larson, now I like Kyle, and listen I’m a dirt racer, okay? I’ve run dirt race more than anybody.”

While old-school and traditional NASCAR fans love the short dirt track, Wallace said, “It shocked me when Kyle said they need to stop doing this, its 3 years, it’s good and I’m like, okay. But why are you saying that now?”

“I mean you know we love dirt.” 

The acclaimed dirt expert shared some of his racing glory as he mentioned him outrunning Ronnie Johnson to win in Cleveland back in the day while showing the viewers souvenirs from his victories over the years racing in the dirt.

The Fox analyst and racing pundit also reflect on the fact that more viewers are against his favorite format, as he puts it, “I don’t know what is created all that uprising and hatred because it seems like it’s 50:50.”

Kyle Larson, known for his expertise in the dirt, struggled in Bristol, taking things way too intense with Stewart-Haas Racing driver Ryan Preece. The feud cost both the drivers the race as both finished down the table. But they weren’t the only drivers struggling for position.

The NASCAR community did not resonate with the idea of dirt racing on a concrete track. Even NASCAR driver Jonathan Davenport came out sharply against this. “I don’t know about this type of dirt racing you know… I classify this more as a show than a race really. I mean, these cars, ain’t built to race on dirt,” he said.

Dirt racing’s “Superman” is also a famed dirt race expert, but the mix-up of dirt on top of a concert track isn’t much fun for the driver.
