Back when Austin Hill leaked Sheldon Creed’s move to Joe Gibbs Racing, the former RCR driver’s morale was already at an all-time low. In a season where Creed was plagued by RCR’s car troubles, his exit from the team, as announced on Oct 11, could not have been more sour. What was touted to be a brilliant pairing ended up with Sheldon Creed losing his cool in favor of Coach Gibbs‘s side.

Whilst Creed looks forward to getting his promising career back on track after a lackluster 2023 season, the unsettling regret left behind after his Richard Childress Racing exit is yet to stop pestering the 26-year-old Xfinity driver. His two-year winless stint in the #2 car has left a lot to be desired with expectations from his stint with JGR increasing by the minute.

Looking back at yet another dismal season in the Xfinity Series which saw Sheldon Creed finish 7th in the series despite being primed for higher, the man of the hour reflected on the nightmare he faced at Richard Childress Racing. He shared in an interview with SiriusXM’s NASCAR Radio, “If you would have asked me in August, even September, I was gonna back to RCR and really just do the same deal again. And I don’t know, I’ve been frustrated the last few years really just not running well and it just gets irritating.”

Creed feels that even with all the hard work he was putting in, the car was just not capable of handling the pace demanded of it. After trying repeatedly, his perseverance was bound to break. He further elaborated, “I finally think that frustration got to me and I started talking to people and I was even considering going back to Truck racing at some point just because I was running how I was and I wanted to go win races again.”

Sheldon Creed had exhausted his patience with Richard Childress‘s outfit, and it was time to look for a new ray of hope. Creed shared that it came down to Stewart-Haas Racing and Joe Gibbs Racing as the final two options for his future. He added, “I ended up at JGR. I knew I wanted to go and have a shot at winning races and not just you know, falling into a win or just winning one or two here and there. I wanted to go somewhere where I felt like I had a shot at winning every week, and I don’t know I just felt like it was my time to move on and JGR was going to be a place I could do that at.”

Creed also shared his struggles to overcome the doubts of leaving the team that had given him his first Truck Series shot. Whilst Creed was expecting to continue with RCR until mid-August, the tables have turned, with Joe Gibbs Racing eager to get started on their 2024 project.
