Tony Stewart losing to his wife Leah—Is this the ultimate proof that women can dominate in racing?

Tony Stewart, after acing the USAC Silver Crown, IndyCar Series, and NASCAR, has found his new challenge in the NHRA. The man who is known to excel in pretty much anything that runs on four wheels and an engine kicked off his competitive drag racing career at 53. In reality, he had no plans to start a new racing journey, but his wife Leah Pruett’s decision to start a family saw him take the reins of his team.

Although there’s still time for Leah to get back to racing, she has already started to draw out plans for her comeback. One of them has Tony Stewart sweating, as he might face a scenario where he would have to compete against his wife in the Top Fuel division.

Leah Pruett would enjoy winning a race competing against Stewart

Leah has experience competing in the NHRA Top Fuel Racing for over a decade. She is a seasoned race car driver and has 12 Top Fuel career wins to her name. Despite taking a break due to her pregnancy, she plans to get back to racing soon and envisions two Top Fuel entries from TSR. This would see her go head-to-head against her husband, Tony Stewart.

Now, it is hard to find a pair of husband-and-wife drivers at the top level of a racing series to compete against each other. But it’s fair to say that this idea isn’t something Stewart is looking forward to. “It’s a terrible idea on paper; it does not make sense. Because if you beat your wife, you get stuck to the couch for eternity. And if you lose, you have to look yourself in the mirror twice a day and go; I got my a** kicked by my wife.” Stewart said this while speaking on the Pat McAfee show. But that’s not all!

He further predicted the sight of Leah celebrating a win against him, which could land her in trouble. “We both hate to lose, but I think she might hate to lose, maybe a little worse than me. She would get excessive celebration penalties for every time she beat me because she would rub it in my face but I would expect that.”

The good thing about the TSR team’s Top Fuel outfit is that they have found their mojo just at the right time before the playoffs begin. And Stewart is excited to compete in his backyard at the historic US Nationals event this week.

Now those who have watched Tony Stewart race in his prime years of racing know that nothing means more to him than winning a race. Although he might have conquered the big series such as NASCAR and IndyCar, the NHRA Top Fuel racing has proven to be tough for him to crack. He is still awaiting his first victory, but the past two events have been fairly successful for the team.

For the first time this season, Stewart managed to reach the final round at the Sonoma National. But, despite his resolve and drive, he was outclassed by former champion Antron Brown and had to contend with a runner-up finish. He showed a glimpse of a similar run at the Brainerd International Raceway, where he made it to the second round of eliminations.

“This is our last race before the playoffs start for us. So this is a big weekend, the Top Fuel side we’ve struggled all year until the last two events. And luckily, we’re getting hot at the right time. We set records multiple times at the last event; I finally went 334.7 mph in a Top Fuel car.” Smoke went on to add.

Tony Stewart has a habit of creating history by competing in racing events. And he just might be able to script a historic at the US Nationals, adding another memorable win to his cabinet.
